Bleeding at 6.1

I’m 6+1 today (Ivf pregnancy) I’ve had 3 losses in the past all around this stage. At 5+5 I had a scan which showed gestational sac and yolk sac everything looked fine but the doctor did ask if I’d bled as she could see something but thought maybe it was just irritation from the Ivf treatment. Anyway, the next morning I had the faintest ever brown spotting which was over as quick as it started. Then last night it started again and turned to red but no clots and no pain. This morning it’s still there but not enough to fill a pad. I know it’s pointless but yesterday I done a frer and it was a dye stealer and this morning I done a clear blue which has increased to 3+ I did feel symptoms seemed to fade last couple of days but this morning felt a bit nauseous again and boobs slightly sore. I don’t really want to go for another scan yet as I’m worried it may irritate things (I know that’s silly) I am booked in for a 7.5 scan anyway but wondered what your thoughts/experiences were? I did think the worst last night but this morning I’m a little bit hopeful again

Hi OP,

I am sorry to hear of your losses. I lost an IVF pregnancy last year early on.

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant via IVF. I just wanted to say I’ve had lots of bleeding almost all the way though this pregnancy. At 6 wks, 10-12wks, 14 wks and just before 16 wks. The bleeding has ranged from light spotting to bright red blood and quite a lot of it to brown discharge to small clots/bits of tissue. I have panicked every time and had 2 additional scans at the early pregnancy unit, luckily both times the baby has been fine.
I was told each time that bleeding in pregnancy isn’t normal but it is very common in around half of all pregnancies. If you get an episode of heavy bleeding with heavy cramping speak to your GP and ask to be referred to the EPU for a scan.
I spoke to the consultant yesterday and she said the bleeding could be coming from the cervix which often gets easily irritated in pregnancy, there is a lot more blood flow to this area due to the pregnancy and so this can be the reason. She said if I get an episode of bright red bleeding to call the midwife triage and they can do a speculum like smear test to check if this is where the bleeding is coming from.

I do hope everything is okay OP, try not to panic and although I know it is really hard not to. If you are worried please get checked out each time just to be safe. Flowers

Hi @FingersCrossedForAllOfUs thanks so much for your post that’s really reassuring to hear and I hope everything goes great with the rest of your pregnancy. After searching online, there does seem to be so many cases where ladies have bled and it’s been ok, I think we just see blood and naturally panic don’t we. What I am worried about is the timing of the bleed seems to be around the same time I bled last time and obviously miscarried but it could just been a coincidence. I’m not cramping which is a good sign and my symptoms do seem to be coming back a little bit. I spoke to the midwife in the end yesterday and I’m gonna go in for another scan on Tuesday. I wanted to wait a few days to see what happens but the bleeding does seem to have settled a bit now. Fingers crossed 🤞
