Do you think labour could be starting?

I'm 39+5 weeks pregnant today and I'm waiting for any sign that labour might be starting as I'm so excited!
This afternoon I had very mild period pain like cramps that came and went for about an hour and then completely disappeared. I've had a few twinges since but nothing more significant.
Has anyone else experienced this in the lead up to labour starting?

Sounds promising...

Could they be Braxton Hicks?

Surely not long to go 😁

Babydancing2020 · 05/11/2020 22:33

Im 37+3 days with my second and I'm having contractions every 5mins that lasts 50 to 60sec for 3 days on and off now..unfortunately only 1cm dilated so far. Losing mucus plug bit by bit but nothing so far...its so nerve wracking isnt it. Even if you dont have any labour signs whatsover you cud have ur baby by tomorrow morning. Im trying everything to get him out but really and truly they will come when they're ready!
Keep me updated I wish you a safe and healthy delivery

@Babydancing2020 it sounds like yours will be arriving very soon! It is nerve wracking playing the waiting game, I know I need to chill out though as she'll come when she's ready.
Make sure to keep me updated on yours too, I'm excited for you Smile

@Diglett567
Hiya! How have you been? Did the baby make its big entrance yet?
Im 38 weeks today still having the same symptons on and off but no baby yet. I felt very disencouraged this week and emotional, today i feel a lot better and im really hoping that labour starts tonight!

Oh come on you two!! It's been ages since I've seen a live birth thread!!

Babydancing2020 · 10/11/2020 21:19

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants Im on it aunty witches! Maybe you can work your witchy magic to get things going xD

Diglett567 · 11/11/2020 14:05

@Babydancing2020 labour hasn't started for me yet unfortunately! I just had my first sweep this morning, she said I'm 1cm with a stretchy cervix so everything is heading in the right direction.
I think the sweep has triggered some more cramping but I'm fully expecting it to die down again.
Sorry to hear that you're struggling. It's really difficult when you think it's going to happen and then doesn't.

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants please work some magic!

I'm 41+1 today with DD2. Yesterday afternoon I had my 3rd sweep. Apparently cervix was very favourable and thin and 2cm dilated. About 30 mins after I started getting mild to moderate contractions lasting almost a minute every 3-5 minutes. This went on for 6hrs and most of them took my breath away and I couldn't speak through them. Then I had a little lie down and they all suddenly stopped and I've had none since. Had my bloody show this morning. Baby is back to back and apparently this is common with OP babies. So frustrating and disappointing. There's nothing worse than waiting on symptoms and nothing happening.

Hopefully you go into labour soon.

I feel so shit today. I was contracting last night from 11 till 6 this morning took 2 baths the contractions were 5 to 10mins and lasted 50sec to a minute i really thought again this would be it unfortunately i went to bed and woke up still pregnant. I dont know what to do its been like this the whole week. I have an appointment on monday but i really want to be checked and seen maybe the midwife can help me out with a sweep. Im not sure if they will do that tho since im 38+1.
What do u guys think i shud do?

Diglett567 · 11/11/2020 16:05

@Babydancing2020 I would call them and speak to them now. Let them know what's been happening and how you're feeling about it. They might suggest for you to come in early and if not it's worth a shot.
I'm not sure what the policy is on giving sweeps before 40 weeks but if you're already starting to dilate then they might be able to give you one.
It sounds really tough, hang on in there, it will all be worth it in the end.

@Diglett567 yeah i was thinking about that as well its just i dont really know who to call right now. Ive got this map with all the contact numbers but the only number that says I can call is for emergencies..im not sure if this is an emergency?

Diglett567 · 11/11/2020 18:03

@Babydancing2020 do you have a non emergency number for your community midwives you can call? I have a non emergency number that I can leave a message on and they get back to you 9-5 Monday to Friday.
Or you could call the labour ward or midwife lead unit you are planning on giving birth at and ask their advice? They might be able to point you in the right direction. In my experience midwives are really understanding and happy to help

@diglett567 no i dont have a non emergency number ive only got an email address and they will get back to me within 2 days but i dont feel like staying in pain for 2 more days for just some advice u get me?
So im just gonna wait tonight see how i'll feel if it doesnt ease off then i'll give the maternity assesment unit a call and see wht they can do and if they'll see me..ive never had this with my first ds. I was 38 weeks with him and I woke up one night in pain and 5 hours later he was born. This one is really trying to make a big entrance or something :s
