Breech Baby

I'm 35 +1 and at my 35 week appointment, my midwife said baby was still breech. He's been like this since about 32 weeks now :(

I have tried going on all 4s and sticking bum in the air but not sure if he's moved or not! I felt hiccups down low this morning, and I feel most of the movement at the top or really far to the side of my bump which makes me think he is head down, but then I can feel a hard lump by my ribs so that must be the head right?

Just wondering will he have time to move as I'm so scared for a c section! And do those movements mean he is breech or head down??

Have you heard of spinning babies website?

Gabriella93 · 05/11/2020 15:05

@peachypetite I have! Had a go at the crawling off sofa exercise last night but I didnt notice if he moved or not to be honest! He seems to move from left to right throughout the day so he can't be completely out of room yet!! X

@Gabriella93 I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and my baby is currently breech, but in the past week she has also been transverse and head down according to the diff midwives I've seen. Are they sending you for a presentation scan? I have one at 36+4 to see what she's doing then as she will be less likely to move after that. I've found that when she's breech or transverse I have a really hard, round lump under my ribs. When she was head down I could barely feel kicks and actually went to hospital that night for monitoring, and the lump under my ribs vanished so I assume that's her head lol

ScatteredMama82 · 05/11/2020 15:12

My DS2 was still breech at 37 weeks so I had an ECV. It worked a treat! Don't worry, there is still time for baby to turn, but if not they can try to turn him. x

Gabriella93 · 05/11/2020 16:02

@Hatepickinganame I haven't been booked in for a scan yet, have another appointment in 2 weeks to see if he's moved and then I'll get booked for a scan I think!

I know what you mean about the hard lump, I deffo feel that a lot. But then feeling the hiccups low down has confused me! Maybe he is still just spinning around in there haha xx

OP posts:
Gabriella93 · 05/11/2020 16:03

@ScatteredMama82 what was your experience of the ECV? Was it ok? Read a couple of horror stories about it xx

OP posts:
Mischance · 05/11/2020 16:04

I had ECV 3 times with each of my 3 pregnancies. All was well.

Mischance · 05/11/2020 16:05

My experience of these was fine - a lot of prodding and pushing, but not painful at all.

Hatepickinganame · 05/11/2020 16:58

@Gabriella93 I get hiccups quite low, and definite hard kicks to the cervical area that make me inhale rather sharply lol ive decided to turn down an ecv though, but I have polyhydramnios which means she'd likely just turn back if it was successful 🙄

Gabriella93 · 05/11/2020 17:52

@hatepickinganame sounds similar to what I feel as well! I think I am going to decline the ECV as well, I am too worried about any risks. Let's hope our babies turn! Got my fingers crossed for you x

Hatepickinganame · 05/11/2020 21:20

You too, you'll have to keep me updated with how it goes for you! This is my 4th but I've never had one be the wrong way up before, or a csection so I'm a little terrified lol

ScatteredMama82 · 05/11/2020 22:49

@Gabriella93 I was really apprehensive about it, but it was absolutely fine. I think it can bring on labour, but at 37 weeks that's not really a problem. I had some contractions so was kept for monitoring for a few hours after, but all settled down and I went home, delivered normally at 40+3.

The ECV was an odd feeling, but not painful.

Seabrook85 · 06/11/2020 19:45

If you don’t want a section... then don’t!

I had my first baby breech, he was 8lb8oz and back to back too.

What I worry about with breech presentations is hip dysplasia for baby... now that’s not fun :(

Gabriella93 · 06/11/2020 22:10

I don't want to get too excited but I think he may have gone head down! I felt some pressure in my pelvic area and also some shooting pains down below sorry if TMI! I still can feel a hard lump up high every now again but maybe that's his bum!

Did anyone else get the shooting pains down there when baby was head down? I can also feel movements almost like he's touching my hip bone which is weird!!

OP posts:
Gabriella93 · 06/11/2020 22:12

@Seabrook85 yes I read about the hip dysplasia!! Ive decided I'm not going to do anything that can potentially harm the bambino, so I will do the c section if it's the lowest risk to him. I'll have to just be brave if it comes to that but I think he may have turned 🙌

OP posts:
Seabrook85 · 06/11/2020 22:29

Fingers crossed. The risk to him is minimal... it’s the risk to you that’s high.
Even as a first timer I’d rather push an 8lb8oz back to back baby out on gas and air than have a section.

Good luck!

Hatepickinganame · 07/11/2020 10:07

@Gabriella93 ah hopefully he has moved, I get that pressure feeling on my hip sometimes but I can never tell which way up she is. I thought she'd gone head down yesterday as the lump had gone and the kicks have moved but don't want to get my hopes up. I'd much rather a breech birth than a section but I have other complications so don't think it will be a safe option.

Notcoolmum · 08/11/2020 11:24

I went back for them to turn but they decided against it. DD was born by elective section at 39 weeks. Perfectly healthy and an overall positive experience. Now an adult and living her best lockdown life!

Gabriella93 · 15/11/2020 16:15

@hatepickinganame did you find out yet if he has turned? I am so confused still, he had hiccups today by my belly button but all the movement I feel is at the top! I should find out on Tuesday though!

I'm like you and would rather have a breech birth but I dont want to do anything risky xxx

OP posts:
Hatepickinganame · 15/11/2020 16:21

@Gabriella93 not yet, I had a dr app two weeks ago and she was breech. Have midwife appointment tomorrow and another scan Tuesday so keep everything crossed! I've no idea which way up she is though. Absolutely no clue 😆 how are you doing x

Gabriella93 · 15/11/2020 16:28

Let me know how it goes! Got everything crossed for you. I have no idea either haha, I'm doing well apart from worrying about a c section and googling everything all the time 😅 let me know how your scan goes x

OP posts:
Hatepickinganame · 15/11/2020 16:32

I will do, seriously hoping she's head down but sneaking suspicion is that she's still breech. I'm so uncomfortable and my pelvis feels like its going to shatter so I'm getting less worried about a section and more impatient to get her out lol the last few weeks always feel like this to me x

Hatepickinganame · 16/11/2020 14:44

Hey @Gabriella93 so my midwife thinks baby is still breech, I have my scan tomorrow to be sure. She said all consultants have different opinions but mine happens to be in favour of vaginal breech delivery, in straightforward cases. Due to polyhydramnios it might be a different story with me. So off to do massive amounts of research on the risks of VD with a breech, check again about ECV and try to make my choice before I go tomorrow so hopefully I won't be gutted when she's still not head down lol how are you feeling about it all?

Gabriella93 · 26/11/2020 19:30

@hatepickinganame how did the scan go? I had one last week and baby is now head down. I didnt even notice him flipping and even when the midwife was feeling she couldn't tell properly, it was only the scan that confirmed it. Hope its all gone okay for you! How many weeks are you now? Xxx

OP posts:
Hatepickinganame · 26/11/2020 19:48

Hey @Gabriella93 so my scan went ok, she was head down but had jumped several growth centiles 😅 i didn't notice her flip at all! I'm 38 weeks tomorrow, I have another scan on Tuesday to confirm size and position. How many weeks are you now? Can't believe how close its getting!
