When did you tell your family you were pregnant?

I know the typical general announcement is after 12 week scan - just curious as to how many of you guys stuck to this?

Was there anyone you told beforehand? Parents / close friends / family?

Just asking as thinking on it, my SIL and my aunt both told our families pretty much as soon as they found out - though kept it generally quiet until 12 weeks. Wondered how common this was?

Partner was there when I did the test, and then I sent a picture to my best friend straight away. Parents about 7 weeks as I was so ill and we regularly went for tea so was refusing wine and hardly eating, but would have told them soon anyway. Brother about 10 weeks as he came to visit and lives a few hours away. Everyone else 12 weeks. No social media announcement so I imagine a lot of people I would physically see but aren't due to lockdown etc will be quite surprised next time I see them!

I’m 6wks today and will be telling my parents this weekend as it’s dad’s birthday. It’s probably not going to be a surprise as they knew I was going through IVF and they cosseted me through the painful weekend after egg collection. Work (select few ppl inc my boss) and some close friends already know, because I’m doing this solo I wanted to make sure I had a support network in case it goes wrong. I’ll be 12 weeks just before Christmas so may tell a few more people then but not planning to announce anything on SM.

First pregnancy at about 8/9 weeks. Second pregnancy after our anomoly scan, so 20/21 weeks ish

I told my sister before DP.. we then told the rest of our immediate family the next day.. I wasn't even 4 weeks at this point

i suffered a miscarriage before so i was very cautious

Can't remember exactly but it was at least 12 weeks ... We didn't find out ourselves until 10 weeks, weren't actively 'trying' hate that expression it was something of a surprise - at 42 I assumed I was going through the menopause!

I’ve 7.6 weeks and I’ve told my mum, sister, best friends x 5 😂 and 2 other friends.... oops!!!
Waiting until 12 weeks to tell everyone else though

We told both sets of parents at 11 weeks - just before our first scan in case it was bad news.

Siblings was straight after the scan, and then told family, friends and work between 14 & 20 weeks.

Lockdown helped us keep it quieter for longer.

A lot of people at work still don’t know & I finish in 2 weeks.

Told my Mum and Dad I was pregnant at 3 weeks and 4 days !!!!
Told them it was twins at 5 weeks and 5 days!!!

I would tell my mum dad and sister before the pee dries on the stick 😅 I can imagine waiting for 12 weeks to tell my parents and treat them like an employer.... but thats me ... also we do IVF so my family knows it

There is no right or wrong time to announce pregnancy. I think it’s just personal preference.

I agree with a PP that it’s nice to have a secret to yourself for a little while . With my second pregnancy I didn’t tell family until I was 16 weeks . I told friends shortly after that . I told work after my 12 week scan though . I announced on social media at 20 weeks .

I should also add I was in lockdown so there was no way anyone could have guessed . I like my wine 🍷 😝 so if I wasn’t in lockdown my friends would have figured it out pretty quickly . I would have told them much earlier. Same with family !

With my first pregnancy I told my family at 4 weeks pregnant. I told my best friends at the same time . I told everyone else including work at 14 weeks .

Close family and 3 pals between 6 weeks and 9 weeks.

Had a scan at 10weeks which looked good so told a couple more pals.

My parents and siblings, about a day after I peed on the stick! Super close friends about 8 weeks.

DH - immediately, woke him up waving the (still wet) pregnancy test in his face!
Parents and siblings - after the private scan we had at 11 and a bit weeks (DH wasn't allowed to the 12 week scan).
12 weeks - my boss, and a few friends
20 weeks - everyone from work, post on facebook etc.
