Pregnancy nausea and sickness second time round

I've recently discovered I'm around 5 weeks pregnant with number 2 (hooray!) Number 1 was born in 2018 and I had horrible sickness throughout, from about 6 weeks until I gave birth. I was never diagnosed with HG but was on medication from 17 weeks for the rest of the pregnancy, which took the edge off it but didn't completely stop it.

I've had nausea since about 5 or 6 dpo. No sickness yet, but I'm dreading it starting. I wondered whether anyone had awful sickness in their first pregnancy but got away without in their second? Or am I destined to have a puky few months to come....?

@WomanFormerlyKnownAsKarateGirl I really honestly think its random. Last time I got off pretty light, just felt like I needed to eat 24/7. I'm now16 weeks and this time has been different, felt a lot of sickness and loads of headaches but managed to keep everything down bar a couple of times.

Hiya

My first baby was in 2018 also and although I was never diagnosed with HG either I had a terrible sicky pregnancy with nausea sometimes 24 hours a day, I hated it and always looked back on my pregnancy as really negative!
I’m now 13 weeks with second baby and I’m way more sick this time than my first baby, GP has signed me off for HG. Not want to scare you but mines started like yours, just nausea and no sickness, I thought I wasn’t going to get it but yeah it came pretty bad. The exhaustion is unreal, more exhausted than I’ve ever been.
Really hope your the opposite and manage to have sickness/hg free pregnancy but don’t think twice about getting medication once you feel it’s a lot off sickness because it will make it more manageable some days

Good luck xxx

@Alanares89 This is what I'm worried about! I know what you mean about looking back on pregnancy in a negative way - I'd have loved a smaller age gap between my babies but couldn't bring myself to be pregnant again sooner. Guess I'll just have to see how it goes. On the plus side I'm working from home full time because of covid, so I don't have to deal with the indignity of throwing up on the train every day like last time. Definitely going to be kinder to myself, I don't think I can push myself through like I did with my first. I really hope your HG settles down a bit soon. Look after yourself!

@LifeIsBusy You're probably right, it'll be totally random as to whether it's better or worse. Will have to see what the next few weeks brings...

I’m like you OP, I had the worst sickness with my first which lasted throughout the pregnancy. It was horrible and I couldn’t keep anything down. Only 4w+3d pregnant now and wondering if it will be the same. Dreading it tbh. Everything smelled and tasted horribly... Fingers crossed it’s not as bad.

I was sick every day for 8 weeks and exhausted the whole way through with my first but then only vommed a handful of times with my second - I certainly felt very queasy from 6-9 weeks but then it was markedly better. I'm actually quite amazed how different my pregnancies are (both girls too!). Congratulations and good luck OP.

I'm the opposite. Breezed through my last pregnancy with hardly any nausea or sickness. Well this pregnancy, as soon as I hit 6 weeks it was ALL DAY nausea. I've had to go on anti sickness tablets which are helping a lot.

I'm also the opposite great pregnancy first time round but of nausea but stopped at 12 weeks now 38+4 with number 2 and still being sick. Think it varies from person to person and some say depends on gender of baby too.
