Spatone- Anyone else used it?

Has anyone else used the Spatone iron sachets and felt ill?

I feel sick in the mornings, awful painful trapped wind and digestive pains

Could it be the Spatone?

Unlikely I think - Spatone is as natural an iron supplement as you can get (it's naturally iron-rich spring water from North Wales).

However, the only way to find out is to stop taking it and see if you feel better

can't stop- midwife says although she won't stop me having home birth, i must be aware i am lower count than they would like. will get count up if it kills me!

strange it's only started since i started the Spatone though.

I'm taking SpaTone at the moment and can't say I've noticed any ill effects, only good ones.

Hope it goes away on it's own or you can work out what it is (and that it's something other than the SpaTone!)

You might want to do some digging about the iron count - when your pregnant your blood volume increases but it's quite normal for the volume of haemaglobin (and therefore iron) not to change, leading to an aparent decrease in iron levels that's completely normal...

Have a look at this discussion for some more technical info, or these pages on the homebirth site.

Good luck with your homebirth

PregnantGrrrl, I am a bit suspicious of it too. I haven't been 'regular' since taking it and do get odd boughts of pain.. I've stopped taking it on an empty stomach now though. I try and have one in morning and one in eve so its not so harsh and breaks it up a bit...

Also meant to say I was given spatone postnataly, took 1 a day with orange juice (vit c aids iron absorption) and had no ill effects.

oh - and good dark chocolate is a source of iron

i found it much better than iron tablets and it also worked a lot better as well. drink loads of water to get things moving.
