Hi all, I went for my private gender scan today in which I am 15 weeks and 3 days, but the umbilical cord in between legs the whole and I feel she just made a guess, as she said I have an idea what the sex is, she didnt sound 100 percent. I feel that she just guessed it was a boy she didnt show me why she thought it was a boy, I couldnt see anything but I'm no expert though. X

Most places won’t do gender scans under 16 weeks as they’re not accurate enough, so I’d be doubtful too. I’d get a second opinion in a few weeks time

I know someone who was told she was having a boy, to be told at a later scan her baby was a girl.

You’re very early, what’s the rush?

Didyousaynutella · 03/11/2020 19:18

Yep it’s a bit early for a gender scan. You will be able to check at 20 weeks. I used to do gender scans at 16 weeks when I did a bit of private work. I don’t understand to need to push for it to be earlier and earlier when the chances of being inaccurate are higher. Working in the nhs I would never guess and only tell if I was pretty sure but there is a ridiculous amount of pressure in private companies.

Thanks all, my partner will be working on the 20 week scan and he was pretty Imparient to know so we can start buying, but we are still in the same boat I guess... i will just have to wait until the 20 week sonits accurate enough to tell. X

Why do you need to know the baby's sex to start buying things?

Several people I know were told one sex and gave birth to the other. Take whatever you're told with a pinch of salt and be prepared for either to arrive on the day Grin

A man I work with was told he was having a girl 3 times, and out came a boy.

I also work with a girl who was told she would be having a boy, and she had a little girl.

When I had my scan, she sounded really unsure as well. She got it right, but she definitely didn't sound sure at all.
