Private Scan Clinics

I was just wondering if the private places which offered scans stayed open during the last lockdown? I have one booked in a few weeks so my husband can see our baby as he wasn’t allowed to the 12 week scan which he was quite upset about. I’d hate for him to miss this as well.

I had 2 private scans during the last lockdown, at different places. However, only one of them allowed a plus one in as well.

You might find the ones that are more more "fun" ones that offer experiences eg 4d scans rather than reassurance/wellbeing scans will be the ones that close. The ones that stay open will be the ones that offer Nuchal fold scans, NIPT/Harmony testing, wellbeing checks - so with a more medical slant - especially any that can take pressure off NHS services

@Smp321 Oh Im going to follow this as also have one for the end of November 🤞🏻🤞🏻 it's an early scan and booked it so my OH could come and now Im not sure. Ill probably give mine a call next week when things become clearer and hopefully they've made a decision on small places like that xx

Thank you all for the replies.

I suppose they are ‘for fun’ but it’s a huge part that my husband (And many other partners) is missing out on because of the virus. The hospital I’m with don’t allow +1’s that’s we booked scan privately as well so he can be a part of the journey.

Fingers crossed that these places will remain open and allow a +1!! I’ll probably ring next week to find out for certain.

I have one booked for Thursday Confused hopefully they’ll be in touch or will put something on their website

I'm really hoping too that the one near us stays open and allows partners - our 12 week scan falls within lockdown, so thinking a private one might be the only way to have that first experience together. Think I'll call them next week when they've had chance to work out new regs...

At my daughter's 'fun' scan at 30wks a life threatening condition was found. Thank goodness for this - it was a miracle she found out and plans were put in place for immediate surgery when she went into labour. Baby was also very small but mum was measuring correctly due to polyhydramnios. The subsequent amniocentesis she had collapsed the membranes around the baby and baby was born prematurely.

This did not show up on the 12 or 20 wk scans.

My other daughter is having a private scan on Monday at a similar gestation and it certainly isn't for 'fun'.

The NHS should offer a routine scan after the point of 20 wks as not all issues are visible then.

I have a gender scan booked for the 21st November. I have spoken to the clinic this morning and they are transferring it to a well-being scan. They said they will have a look at the gender for me but they are unable to do what they usually do if baby is being uncooperative. I’m keeping my appointment as my fiancé is yet to see the baby.

3D or 4d scans weren't allowed, only scans classed as medical were allowed in the last lock down, so those with a reason, so I think you can get an early reassurance scan but doubt the gender reveal ones or the fun 4d ones will me allowed etc xx

I have a private gender scan at Window to the Womb and they have contacted me to say they are only doing wellbeing scans and cancelling gender and 4d scans. You can change your appt to a wellbeing scan.
