Postpartum - Pain in left side under rib

Hi everyone,

I am 2 weeks postpartum and for the last few days I have had a dull pain in my left side just under my ribs. I don’t feel it all the time, just when I move certain ways like getting off the sofa for example.

Has anyone experienced this and can share what it was?

I made the mistake of googling it and there are some scary stories but I’m mostly thinking it could be gas or my organs moving around and under a bit of pressure?

Hey OP, did you deliver by caesarean?

Mummyinlove09 · 29/10/2020 20:33

Sorry, I should have said that, yes it was an unplanned c section.

It probably is trapped wind then. I had my third section six weeks ago and was in pain for about a fortnight!

I ended up buying deflatine from the chemist but peppermint capsules or peppermint tea will help.

Obviously if it gets worse or you're worried then do seek help. You can ring the ward for advice if you need to.

I hope you feel better soon x

That’s what I’m hoping it is so this helps put my mind at ease, thank you. I haven’t been passing gas much at all so this could be it.

Can I ask, did you only feel a dull ache when you moved a certain way as well? x

I agree - sounds like trapped air post c-section. I had this (although the pain kicked in a day or two afterwards rather than 2 werks). Eventually moved up and into my shoulder before moving down my arm. It was agony! I can remember asking the midwives and being told matter of factly it was common post c-section.

Yes, the same as KittyBloom, I ended up with pain right down my arm as well; it was so painful.

I hope you feel better soon x
