Hi all

First pregnancy - week 5 today!

Woke up and had some pains in lower right of groin, not terrible, haven't got worse, but noticeable! They also haven't been constant and there’s been barely any pain for the last hour or so....

I also had this afternoon, and sorry for TMI, some very light brown discharge, not much, definitely no more than a 50p coin in total all day!

All this freaked me out so called the early pregnancy unit...they've asked me to go in for a quick scan and bloods, potentially ectopic pregnancy but also may be nothing!

GP on the other hand jumped off the deep end and started talking about miscarriage!!!!! He was so so negative yet the nurses at the early pregnancy unit didn’t even mention that!!

Has anyone else had this before and been okay?? It's really worried me but trying to keep a cool calm head on... but I have no other pregnancy symptoms other than being very thirsty and occasional sore nipples....so hoping this is all normal and just routine?

Thank you in advance for help!!

xxxxxx

Congratulations on your pregnancySmile
Are the pains a bit like period pains? I had these throughout most of my pregnancy, it’s just your insides stretching about. I didn’t have the brown discharge, but a friend did and it’s quite normal in early pregnancy I believe.
Hope your scan and bloods are ok, they should give you peace of mind. Try to relax and not panic and hopefully someone else will be along soon.

Try not to panic. What you're describing could very well be just normal pregnancy symptoms. Yes, it's possible that pains and brown discharge could be signalling and impending early miscarriage but it's definitely not guaranteed to be the case. I know it's hard but try not to worry too much at the moment. At five weeks, it may well be a waiting game as a scan won't show you very much at this stage so you just have to wait it out and see how things progress. It's good your EPAU will see you as many won't before 6 weeks. Hard as it is, worrying won't change anything - if you're going to have a miscarriage, it will happen regardless and there isn't anything to be done. Miscarriages, especially early ones, are really common and if it did happen, it wouldn't be your fault or controllable in any way. Plus you know you can get pregnant and that's a big positive. Remember that most pregnancies will be successful and that lots of women miscarry and then go on to have a healthy pregnancy. Remember also to take each day as it comes and that the things you're describing can be a part of a normal pregnancy. Take care and really hope things go well for you.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Brown spotting can be totally normal in early pregnancy for some women. I have been pregnant 4 times and sadly 3 of those times brown spotting signalled a miscarriage and after a couple of days the spotting became bleeding and was bright red in colour. With my 4th pregnancy I had some brown spotting when I wiped a few times between weeks 5 and 9, but everything was fine and EPU found no cause for the spotting.

Unfortunately, other than wait until your scan there is not much you can do. I know it's easier said than done.

I hope everything works out for you.
