Hi ladies,

This is my first baby currently coming towards 15 weeks.

I just wanted to know what happens at 16 week appointment, what is discussed? Will they get back to me on my blood tests?

Mine will be over the phone which is understandable. I just wanted to know what I can do to prepare myself.

As the first booking appointment I was an emotional wreck and couldn't quite believe I'm pregnant. In the end my midwife asked if I had any questions and my mind went completely blank lol.

Many thanks for reading! X

If they haven’t already sent you your blood results, you should definitely be given them at your 16 week appointment. They should ask how you are feeling physically and emotionally, check you know about flu and whooping cough vaccines, discuss the guidelines for fetal movements, check you have contact numbers and know who to call if you have worries, make sure your 20 week scan is booked, check if you need any additional appointments and if those have been booked, and advise how to book your next appointment.

Mine was in person (not standard at the moment but I have caseload care and my midwife offered me the choice, said she was happy to meet irl as it would be our first time meeting).

I had urine and BP tests (obvs not applicable to you) and otherwise she just asked how I was feeling! It was really short and I don't remember anything of consequence being discussed. 😂

Mine was over the phone back when the country was in full lockdown. It was pretty much a waste of time. They asked how I was feeling and whether I had any questions and that was about it... it lasted all of about 4 minutes. I don't think it was even with a midwife, just a HCA.

Mine was over the phone and about two minutes long! This may help you OP:

Mine was a few weeks ago in person. We discussed blood results and nuchal screening results, she did the urine dip test, took my blood pressure and I heard baby’s heart rate on a Doppler (don’t think they did it that early last time). We also talked about my consultant referral. It was about 15-20 mins.

Mine was over the phone. Gave blood test results, asked how I was feeling, made sure I had numbers in case of problems. Was on the phone just under 3 minutes. Pretty pointless really

This was last year, so probably different now.

I had:
BP and urine tested.
Listen to baby's heartbeat (Note: Not all midwives offer this. As baby is so small still, the heartbeat can be hard to find).
Bloods taken for Quad test. Sonographer couldn't get NT measurement for the combined screening.
Check had the 20 week scan booked.
Quick convo about how I was feeling.
I think we also booked in the GTT test here as well.

Thank you ladies for the replies, it's been really helpful!!

It's nice to hear of the different experiences especially with the current situation we are all facing.

I'm wishing you all a safe lockdown and good health xx
