Should I be worried about this weight gain?

My little pregnancy app popped up a reminder today to weigh myself as I hadn't done it since I put my start weight in.

I'm 24+5 weeks pregnant and I have gained 1.9kg. To be honest I expected it to be more as my bump is quite big.

I've had a quick look at Google - but there's no clear guidance. I don't have a midwife appointment until December but wondering if I should raise my concerns with her beforehand? Or is my anxiety just too high today?

I wouldn’t be too concerned if your last scan showed baby was measuring ok. We’re you normal weight or overweight before? I didn’t gain any weight until nearly 30 weeks and even now have only gained 4kg and I’m 38 weeks! I was at top end of normal bmi before pregnancy and put it down to healthier eating and exercise. My baby girl is measuring all fine so I wouldn’t worry too much x

I'd imagine it all depends on your starting weight.
My midwife weighed me at 12 weeks & again at 28 weeks, in that time I'd only gained 1kg, she wasn't concerned at all.
I'm 36 weeks tomorrow & going by by own scales I have gained 9lb's so far, from my pre-pregnancy weight.

I was told by the midwife I was a "healthy weight" at my booking appointment. I was 75kg, BMI in the healthy range? I'm 5"10.5.

Nothing was mentioned about baby's weight etc at scan, just that he was looking good and healthy.

I gained about a stone in total and most of that was in the third trimester and was back at my prepregnancy weight within a week postpartum, now at 11 weeks I'm about 5lbs down but still in a perfectly healthy range. My mum did the same with her three pregnancies
A growing bump and eating a normal amount are the main things. There is a wide variation in normal weight gains, the growing baby will take everything it needs just keep an eye on yourself and make sure you have enough energy especially as you get further into the third trimester I had to make a conscious effort to eat an extra snack mid afternoon

OnNaturesCourse · 28/10/2020 16:15

Yes, I have been feeling a definite lack of energy in the afternoons and being a bit crabbit too so prehaps I need a snack even if I'm not feeling especially hungry?

Bump is definitely growing 😊

If your midwife isn’t worried then I reckon you’re fine :) depends as pp say on your weight before: I was pushing underweight and trying to gain to help with fertility. I’m 31 weeks now and have gained 10kg....! Which is still within normal range, but clearly my body feels it needs the extra. So long as you’re eating well yours will do what’s right for you!

I’m 27 weeks and haven’t put on anything so far, had a growth scan yesterday and baby is slightly heavier than average and they said growing perfectly so I’m not overly worried. I’m expecting to suddenly balloon although my bumps already huge

Thanks all. Suspect my anxiety is just a little high just now.

The worry is coming from... I didn't gain much in my first pregnancy, around 15lbs in total and that was with eating everything and anything in sight - baby was 7lbs 5oz and I walked out of hospital lighter than I started pregnancy, but I was so ill after the birth and weak. It was a vicious cycle as I was too weak to do much, including eating so I lost a stone more in the following 3 months and became anaemic.

I guess I'm concerned it happens again. I'll maybe speak to my midwife about it next time I see her as I would like to gain more this time round to avoid the aftermath of my first.

I had DS in september. Total weight gain of 2.2kg! I came out of pregnancy lighter than I went in with DS being almost 8lb at 37weeks. We were both healthy so there was no concern but I did worry about it alot during the pregnancy

OnNaturesCourse · 30/10/2020 00:36

Thank you, I feel a lot calmer about it now but I'm definitely going to mention it at my next appointment even if it's just so we can keep a eye on it after the birth.
