Hi all. Just wondering when everyone stopped their progesterone on a fresh successful cycle of ivf?

I have had a bit of a rough time lately and to top everything off my liver bloods are extremely high right now, I’m jaundice and very unwell.
So as a last resort because docs don’t have a clue why this is happening, they’ve asked me to start weaning myself off progesterone.

I am 8 weeks pregnant through ivf and petrified at stopping when we are so close to 12 weeks. But I understand my health is detereating fast and we need to know if that is maybe the reason

I started weaning myself off by that point, think I finished mine around 9 weeks. I was really scared of coming off it but all was fine. I really hope you start to feel better soon!

I am so sorry you're going through this.

I didn't stop till later, started to wean off at 12 weeks. But DP had looked into it and there are definitely some clinics that only routinely give progesterone till 8 weeks, and he saw some research suggesting it may be unnecessary right from the time of the first positive test. Obviously you'd rather have the progesterone support and not have to rely on hoping you don't need it, but it's encouraging that some don't advise taking it for longer.

If you start to reduce it and see no improvement in your symptoms, will they still want you to come off completely? Can they get any info from testing your progesterone levels?

I really feel for you and I hope everything will be ok x

Thank you ladies that’s a little reassuring

I’m not sure @Inkpaperstars I wish I’d asked more questions to my gayne doc now. I have liver doc today maybe he can shed some light.

I stopped at 7 weeks and am currently 20 weeks x

Are they monitoring your progesterone levels?

I’ve only had medicated frozen cycles so I wouldn’t have been producing my own progesterone. I’d imagine that on a fresh cycle, you do, don’t you?

Fightingtobepositive · 28/10/2020 09:37

No their not, I wondered if they should be at the moment. The doctor said it should be fine you just can’t help thinking why they’d originally say 12

Hope you got on ok today x

Thank you @Inkpaperstars well a little positive news, my Main liver blood has dropped from 980 to 500 and the others have very briefly dropped so we are just hopeful they continue to do so. The specialist today said that they are thinking it may be from all the drugs from ivf and I still have to stop the progesterone. So I guess it’s good but I’m just gutted it’s come to having to stop the progesterone now x

That is very promising news. I really hope the transition off progesterone goes smoothly, I can imagine how stressful it is.

Thank you. We are so frightened but don’t see another option 😣
