I know this may be a silly question to some but please be nice I’m panicking a little I ate coleslaw yesterday and generally have it a couple of times a week, I just read that pre packaged coleslaw should be avoided in pregnancy, I’m in the very early stage 5+5weeks, obviously going forward I will avoid it but can what I’ve ate in the last few weeks harmed my pregnancy in anyway.

Is it from the NHS site that said you should avoid coleslaw? I'd avoid the 'general internet' for what's safe to have in pregnancy as it varies between countries. As far as I can remember there's no reason you can't have coleslaw.

I'm not sure what the rules are but try not to worry. Some women don't discover that they're pregnant for months and I'm sure a small amount of 'slaw won't hurt.

Someone with more knowledge of what you can/ can't eat will be able to advise you on what to do going forward though.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Thank you, it was just the internet. I feel like my anxiety has doubled since finding out a week ago.

You can eat coleslaw. The only reason you might not would be if the mayonnaise had been made with eggs which were not lion-stamped, which won’t be the case if it was pre-packaged.

I definitely ate coleslaw throughout my 3 pregnancies.
I think that advice may have been from a different country, was it? I cant imagine why those little processed, sealed tubs we get would cause any harm to anyone. May have been somewhere that has more deli style salads and dressings which may contain raw eggs?

Ginfilledcats · 27/10/2020 16:23

It's only if the coleslaw is home made and the egg not pasteurised. Shop bought will be fine! I ate it pretty much every week during my pregnancy

Just follow the NHS website.

Babyontheway21 · 27/10/2020 16:48

It was a .com website actually it was talking about how you can contract listeria. I have checked the nhs website and it doesn’t say anything specifically about coleslaw. Thanks for putting my mind at rest everyone. If this is me only only week knowing I’m scared to think what I’ll be like in a few months HmmSmile
