Help! Baby movements . . .

I’m currently 26 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I have been able to feel the baby kick for around 4 weeks now.

Most days the baby is pretty active, I work in an office job so am sat down and very aware of my body throughout the day. However, yesterday I didn’t feel the baby move at all during the day but she started up again in the evening and appears to be ok today.

Is it normal for babies to be much more active some days than others and when should you be concerned?

I’ve read all of the advice on monitoring your babies movement but I can’t find anything on movements slowing down for just a day and when to be worried.

I’d really appreciate any advice!

I think the general advice is that your baby won’t be in a pattern of movement until 28 weeks. If you’ve felt them move recently, even if not at their usual time, it’s probably all fine. But, if you’re at all anxious or unsure it’s worth speaking to your midwife because it’s one of those things they would rather check and be sure of!

@SaraDowns123 I had this about the same amount of weeks that you are, and just thought oh baby had a quiet day yesterday. When I had my midwife appointment I mentioned it to her when she asked about movements and she said I should have called up to be checked, like she really emphasised that any change or quiet days you should call up the triage/assessment unit.
Just so you know everything was absolutely fine! Im almost 39 weeks now and waiting for this little wriggler to make an appearance.
BUT do call up if you are worried, you know in yourself if you are thinking hm im not sure about this, call up! They really don't mind!

At 26 weeks the baby is still small enough to flip into a completely different position, where the kicks can be harder to feel, towards the back etc, so I really wouldn't worry, particularly as you felt movements later on. As others have said though, it's always worth checking in with your midwife to put your mind at rest.

I'd phone your midwife - even if it's just for some reassurance. Please don't give up either until you're happy. :)

To be honest I would call up if I felt baby moving different from normal. I noticed my little one had different movements and a lot less. This was a bit different as I was being induced. They didn’t do a scan as heart beat was ok but baby had wrapped the cord around his foot. It could be something like baby has moved into a different position, but it’s better to be safe. Good luck

Sorry posted to early. Good luck with everything im sure baby is ok. It’s always best to be safe with movement’s.

Thanks so much for all of your advice, really appreciate it! Smile

Would you say there’s a set amount of time you should wait before calling the midwife?

For example, the baby is really active first thing in the morning and just before bed at night. If I hadn’t felt her move in the morning, should I call the midwife the same day and not wait until the evening?

It’s a tricky one isn’t it, because I guess everyone’s baby is different and perhaps you’ve just got to go with your gut and intuition?

I'd say as soon as you notice :) It's better to get that reassurance straight away instead of worrying :)

If you're not happy with the response, I'd ask for a second opinion too :)

Buzlightyear1 · 26/10/2020 15:59

Yes I would definitely say as soon as you notice a difference. They are very happy to check. It’s always worth getting checked always go with your gut feeling. Like the previous poster said also if your not happy with the response asked for a second opinion
