16 week gender scan wrong?

Hiya!
I went for a private gender scan yesterday, now the man was pretty confident it’s a girl...
when I got home last night and looked at the scan, I’m now not so sure! I’m sure I can see a ‘lump’ which could resemble a boy...
Has anyone had any experience with this happening?

You’ll find out in a few weeks at your anomaly scan. Wouldn’t stress.

It’s possible - 16 weeks is still quite early and my understanding is it’s easier to mistakenly think it’s a girl than mistakenly think it’s a boy. But these things are generally accurate, so it’s hard to say.

By your 20 week scan it should be pretty clear, so hopefully you’ll find out for sure then.

I'd assume the sonographer would be better placed to read the scan than anyone else tbh.

There’s always a chance it could be wrong but I very much doubt you’ll have spotted something that a professional wouldn’t

Girls bits can appear swollen so to the untrained eye may look like boy parts.

Also, depending on the angle of the ‘potty shot’ you may see the cord which would look like boy parts too.

Some nub theory websites allow you to pay to send your gender scan potty shot photos for a second opinion. Not sure how accurate they will be though but it may help to ease your mind.

I would be more inclined to believe the sonographer if they say girl it’s most likely a girl.

And as others have said, it can always be double checked at the 20 week scan!

I had this happen at my 20 week NHS scan so it is possible.
I was told I was having a girl, my sister was with me and did say she thought she could see it was a boy but the sonographer said nope, definitely a girl.
Gave birth to a lovely little boy, all his first pics he's in pink and pretty stuff.

I had a 16 week gender scan.

Sonographer said she could clearly see labia. Not a lack of penis.

20 week NHS scan backed it up. (I told the sonographer we knew but wanted her to tell me her opinion before I told her what the 16 week had said.)

Both were correct. A beautiful girly.

If you're not sure then the 20 week should be a good double check.

Do you have a photo you can share? X

I had it confirmed three times that I was having a girl with DD2: 16w, 20w and 34w.

If you’re not convinced, check at 20w.
