Please calm me down - Induction

So I'm being induced due to small baby, I'm only 37 weeks.

I'm an emotional wreck, I've had the 24hr propess and 2 doses of the 6 hour prostin. And I'm still only 1cm!! (Which is what I was when I arrived)

The doctors coming out to see me this morning, can I decline a 3rd dose? The pains they give are awful. I was woken at 1am, thinking I was in labour with really strong tightness and pressure, to be told- still 1cm.

I've cried numerous amounts of times, I want to go home, i want to be with my partner, I miss my 3 year old, I've had enough.

Also, if they eventually do get to break my waters, would you recommend an epidural? I'm so scared and in so much pain, I want him out now

Hang in there! Once you get to 2cm they can break your waters. It took me 24 hours to get to 2cm but once waters were gone, baby was here in 3 intense hours!!

Good luck. Let us know how you get on xx

YukoandHiro · 24/10/2020 09:45

Ps: I did breaking waters to delivery on just gas and air. It hurt but it was manageable. Like you it was a second baby. Your body remembers what to do and the whole thing goes so much more quickly.
I had an epidural with my first and personally have found recovery far easier this time going natural.

Matilda1981 · 24/10/2020 09:50

I had an induction with my 4th as she was two weeks late, (first week of lockdown), I can’t imagine how scared you are feeling as I didn’t like being on my own and I’d already had 3 other labours! All I can say is listen to the midwives, they know what they’re doing and they will comfort you - I had a big bleed after being induced and it terrified me as it hadn’t happened in my other labours - the midwives were fantastic! Good luck your baby will be here soon!
P.S if you can do it without an epidural I would recommend it (had one with my first) recovery is defo faster and if you have a straightforward labour from now you’ll get to go home sooner!

Matilda1981 · 24/10/2020 09:51

Sorry saw you had a toddler so have been through this before 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 24/10/2020 09:51

Poor you Sad You absolutely can decline a third attempt. I had a horrible painful experience with the pessaries and refuse to have them again this time.

The epidural was the best thing I ever did, so definitely something to consider, especially if you’ve had a long uncomfortable day. They put mine in and I had a nap while I dilated!!

RandomMess · 24/10/2020 09:54

My inductions took a long time to get me dilated but once they did it was quick.

Yep the pains are very painful I found a tens machine really helped but of course not with the pains that went down my legs!!

Hang in there Thanks

I'm sorry you are stressed OP. I hated being stuck in the hospital for days during my induction as I just wanted to get back to my daughter.

I wouldn't decline without asking what the alternatives are. How many do they plan to give you? When will they move to the drip?

I had 4 pessaries 12 hours apart so it was a long wait. When they finally broke my waters though he arrived 2.5 hours later on gas and air.

Good luck and I hope things start moving soon for you.

YukoandHiro · 24/10/2020 17:24

How are you getting on now OP?

AntiHop · 24/10/2020 17:27

How are you?

Mmother17 · 24/10/2020 17:44

Still no baby.
I had the 3rd dose of the pessary, I'm just hoping it dilates me enough to break waters.

Just that hormone drip has been scaring the living day lights out of me 😩

I feel so heavy down there when I stand, I've just come back from a walk and being on the ball. I dont want to put it down to anything and get my Hope's up either

If they want you to have the drip I'd ask for an epidural first!

AntiHop · 24/10/2020 19:29

Oh no poor you op.

MegaBloxRoxx · 24/10/2020 20:02

Insist on an epidural before the drip. I will if I ever need induction by drip again (its going in my birth plan!).

Hope things start moving for you soon Flowers

MaryShelley1818 · 24/10/2020 20:15

Good luck!! And definitely get the epidural...there's no medals for being in pain.
I had a long induction (3 pessaries and the drip) They broke my waters at 4cm, I had the epidural then went to sleep and they woke me up when it was time to push! It was blissful, no pain, calm and relaxed, no tearing or stitches needed and was walking around an hour later :)

TheHypnobirthingExperts · 24/10/2020 20:57

hope things are progressing well for you and your baby. Staying calm, relaxed, positive and in the moment will give you the best birth. If your baby hasn't arrived yet then you could still use the Specialist mp3 download, Induce Your Labour, on www.thehypnobirthingexperts.com. Remember, simply focus on 1 moment at a time, it's not useful to think ahead :)

ChampooPapi · 25/10/2020 16:05

Yes, get that epidural! Good luck

YukoandHiro · 25/10/2020 16:49

Let us know how you're doing OP. Thinking of you. Hope your baby is here very soon

Britannah · 25/10/2020 20:29

Hope you are doing ok OP! With my DC I was officially induced at 2pm on the Saturday but didn’t start getting contractions until 6.30am on the Monday morning - baby arrived early hours Tuesday morning. It can be a long process but stick with it, you will be ok. I had my waters broken and hormone drip with no epidural just gas and air. Don’t be petrified. I’m currently pregnant with DC2 a couple of years so it didn’t traumatise me too much. Good luck and hope baby arrives safely soon 💐

excitednerves · 25/10/2020 22:22

Good luck @Mmother17, I’m also measuring small and this is what I’m worried about. I have no advice but please come back and let us know how everything went. I hope it’s over quickly for you and that you’re holding your precious baby soon. X

Wowzel · 25/10/2020 22:30

Insist on an epidural before the drip.
If the third pessary hasn't really worked and they can't easily break your waters then ask for a section.
Good luck - thinking of you! x

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 26/10/2020 15:13

Thinking of you OP. Hoping the silence is because you’re busy with your new baby!
