Midwife appointment

Hi everyone - this is my first time using mumsnet as I have had 2 miscarriages before so scared to tell any of my family / friends this time round. My Q is about my midwife appointment, any time before when booking, my first app with the midwife has always been at my health centre but when booking this time round she asked if this was my 1st pregnancy. I told her 4th (I have a son) had a miscarriage before him 5 years ago and another one beginning of this year. She told me my midwife appointment this time is at the hospital which has never been the case before. Has this happened with anyone else? Is it because I've had miscarriages in the past? Or just because of Covid maybe? Thanks in advance Smile

Could be any number of reasons? Lots of midwives aren't doing home visits, loads of GP surgeries are practically closed so lots of services have reverted back to hospitals. I had the 8 week booking in appointment over the phone and then one around 10 weeks to do weight height etc and that was at the hospital compared to first pregnancy when it was at the doctors

Agree it could be for any number of reasons. With DD1 booking in was at the children's centre a mile away, with this pregnancy it was due to be at a health centre 3 miles away but ended up on the phone instead.

I've been sent to that health centre and 2 different hospitals for blood tests and scans so far this pregnancy as well as seeing the midwife at the GPs! I can barely keep track of where I'm meant to be going!

My booking appointment was at the hospital and same for taking bloods but in theory my midwife appointments at 16wks should be in my GP with my named midwife aslong as things don't go pearshaped

I'd assume it's Covid related. Have everyone come to the hospital, rather than the midwives going to multiple GP surgeries (mine covered 3).

Though my booking appointment was at the community hospital, while all other appointments were at the GP. So they do this sort of thing in normal times too.

All my appointments have been at the hospital due to COVID. Previously they would have been at my GP surgery

Thanks everyone !

All my previous pregnancy related appointments have been at my gp surgery. During this pregnancy everything including routine mw checks have been at my local hospital. They’ve set up a unit dedicated to being a mw clinic, purely because of Covid.
