When did you start setting up for baby?
I’m 21+2 so I know I’m still a bit early but every time I see all baby’s stuff stacking up I feel the urge to start organising and getting ready!

Personally I'm one of those who buys things every month from 12 weeks. Don't want to be forking out so much money all at once.

Sinead543 · 23/10/2020 16:10

@Helenknowsbest yeah that’s what I’ve been doing, picking up essential bits and clothes every month and whenever I see sales!

I'm 31 weeks and over the last week have started getting bits and pieces washed and organised properly. Took advantage of being off work before going back next week!

Sinead543 · 23/10/2020 16:24

@penguin423 I’ve got to come off work at 28 weeks because I work in a nursing home so I’ll probably start doing bits and pieces then to keep myself busy so I don’t end up driving myself mad lol

Congrats The baby OP! I’m 25 weeks and Like you both I have just been collecting bits and pieces along the way so there isn’t a huge expense in one go.

Sinead543 · 23/10/2020 16:36

@Cat1990 even doing that I feel the money I saved is going down so fast! I’ve been trying to slow down but at the end of the day it’s stuff I need so nothing I can do lol

@Sinead543 have you looked at buying things second hand or as hand-me-downs? We've picked up some great bargains on gumtree, plus have been kindly loaned a few things from friends. Instead of Xmas presents for us from close family I'll be asking for a few baby items. We have the majority of what we need already, haven't spent more than £250!

I'm 22 weeks with twins and started getting bits this week (but I've had several miscarriages before so wanted to wait until I was comfortable that these babies would have the best chance of making it).
I've painted their room and started to order bits - most prams are on 4-5 week delivery so I'm going to do that next week as I've been told to prepare for early delivery. Ive bought some clothes but honestly it will probably be a last minute dash for those as I don't know what size these babies will be and whether they'll be premature or not.
I've ordered the cots from IKEA but only because they have a 365 day return policy

Sinead543 · 24/10/2020 15:25

I’ve started getting bits and pieces, getting cot and pram at the end of the month, I was more asking when did use start setting up like the cot and washing and organising clothes that sort of thing

@Sinead543

I probably won't set the cots up until the week or so before - maybe even get DH to do it whilst I'm in hospital ( c section and no visiting hours) - they don't sleep in there for 6 months anyway so not particular rush on that one

Clothes washing - the newborn bits I'll do at 26 weeks as I have to be ready to go from that point onwards. The same with my hospital bag. But will only open enough to get me through the hospital stay. DH I'm sure can manage to wash the other bits whilst we are waiting to come home

I personally don't like to have too much unpacked/washed and kept receipts for everything - maybe I'm pessimistic but petrified of something going wrong

With older DD I was super excited and had everything ready from around 7 months pregnancy 🤣 and hospital bag from around 36 weeks

MichelleOR84 · 24/10/2020 17:17

I’m 36 weeks and I’m only starting to get things ready now 🙈! I suck !!!! Although to be fair , it’s my second baby so it’s mostly just getting stuff out of the attic.

With my first born I went into labour at 37 weeks and didn’t even have a place for baby to sleep yet. I was in early labour and my husband was running out to John Lewis to buy a snuzpod !! The sales assistant asked him when he needed the snuzpod by and he said “ now , my wife is in labour “ 😂!

So if you can buy early then go for it ! It’s better than last minute !

fmlfmlfmlfm · 24/10/2020 17:18

16 weeks and haven't bought a thing, and don't have an urge to.

Disappointedkoala · 24/10/2020 18:10

Last minute nelly over here! With our first we only started getting stuff at about 30 weeksand were still decorating at 37 weeks (DD arrived at 38). This time probably marginally more organised because we had 90% of stuff in the loft but need to sort hospital bags in next week or so.

PopsicleHustler · 25/10/2020 07:33

I'm expecting my 5th little one in January. I'm 28 weeks tomorrow. I'm expecting our 3rd girl. So literally have bags full in the cupboard under the stairs full of my girls stuff. Last baby girl was born 2018, so a lot of her stuff is still trendy and nice. And going to have a sort through today. Wash things that need washing and so on. Literally I only need to buy a travel system as I have away my last one. Totally regretting that now as it was lovely. But will get a brand new one in the next few weeks for baby. And then literally newborn nappies and muslins and things for me ie maternity pads, new pyjamas etc. Also will definitely be packing a bag if snacks as hospital food is not great. My hospital prides itself on cold hard dollops of mash potato and sliced of salmon that's as thick as a door but the same size as a small bar of soap, gross.

Anyone else packing a snack bag????

AegonT · 25/10/2020 08:48

I'll start at after 24 weeks and want everything set up by 37 weeks. That includes moving my daughter into guest room with new furniture, car seats in cars, pram in cupboard under the stairs, hospital bag packed etc.

Sinead543 · 25/10/2020 09:01

@PopsicleHustler I’m definitely packing snacks! Because of covid DP wont be able to go to canteen or nip out to McDonald’s if I’m hungry after birth so my bag will be full of snacks and drinks for both of us

@AegonT I’m thinking the same, I won’t do anything yet then when I come off work at 28 weeks I’ll start the organising, then I’ve actually got things to do to keep me busy, I’m getting cot at the end of the month purely because I’ve got the money sitting there and don’t want to end up spending it on something else but won’t set it up or anything until I pack up from work
