Poor diet

Another week of pregnancy, another worry!

I'm currently 17 weeks and, although I'm not as nauseous as the first tri, I still have days where I can't stomach proper food and can only eat junk. For example, I've just eaten hot dogs and oven chips. For lunch I made cod with rice and veg but could only stomach a few mouthfuls. My question is, is this poor diet bad for the baby's development? I'm drinking a lot of orange juice (craving) and occasionally having good days, so it's not all bad. Also I'm still taking folic acid and vit d. I'm feeling guilty about possibly affecting the baby but it's often a case of I either eat junk or nothing...

Top priority is getting the calories you need to function - and if you can only tolerate ‘bad’ foods then so be it. Obviously worth trying for healthier options where you can eg I’ve found plain pasta helps ease my cravings for chips (I think I just want carbs and salt!), but your body will only accept what it will accept!

Maybe try taking a full multivitamin eg pregnacare. At least then you can rest assured that baby is getting all the vitamins it needs. If you don’t want that then maybe at least consider iron supplements as well if meats off the menu - low iron will leave you feeling pretty low.

Try not to worry too much. I’m only about 8 weeks but all I can stomach is toast and apple & mango juice. Like previous poster said try to take a multi vitamin if you can stomach it (I’m taking one but it makes me feel queasy) but don’t worry. Baby will take everything that need from you. Congratulations!

@Correlation I would also recommend taking pregcare or something similar. It will help make you feel better. I also take spatone water for iron, you can put that in orange juice (which Ive also been craving! love it atm)
You just need to ensure you get enough calcium to grow babys bones- cheese, yogurt/ milk ok??
