Are 16w appointments still happening?

I’m just over 16 weeks now, still not heard a word from my named midwife, not even an introduction from her. Pregnant with baby #2 and I know there is normally a 16w check which I assume due to COVID is happening via telephone currently but still nothing. Has anyone else had no communication with their midwife?
I’m so disappointed because I still have questions. Maternity care doesn’t seem very well put together at the moment.

Yes, all appointments are still going ahead (well at my hospital in central London they are). Please contact your midwife team to let them know you haven't heard anything. My 16 week appointment was slightly useless but still reassuring to talk to someone.

mumandcub · 21/10/2020 11:17

Thanks @Minkies13, can I just ask when your appointment got booked for you?

Was telephone appointment for me.. ive had to chase n book everything this time around myself.. guess we get lost in the system

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 21/10/2020 11:23

I had mine 4 weeks ago. Face to face appointment too.
I think I was given the appointment letter at my booking appointment.
Do you have a number for your midwife? Might be on your notes? I would give them a ring.

RustyCat · 21/10/2020 11:24

I was told I would have to call and book my own 16 week appointment sfte rmy 12wk scan, this was advised when I had my booking appointment.

Perhaps yours is similar? Self booking that is?

mumandcub · 21/10/2020 11:25

So frustrating, I’ve been the exact same, I’ve only had one community midwife who isn’t even my named midwife do my 8 week booking and that’s been it. Nothing since even though I’m a previous diabetic. I hate to put down midwives as on the whole I think they do a great job but honestly, my named midwife is nothing like the lady I had in my first pregnancy.

Nope, was told at my booking appointment that this named midwife would be in touch after her annual leave...that was end of august and still nothing from her. I tried ringing her last week and got a text to say she was busy in clinic, no further call back or communication from her.

I was told to phone up to book my 16 week appointment. My midwife is based at my GP so I just had to phone my GP to book.

Would recommend phoning midwives, or your GP to see if they can tell you what the process should be.

mumandcub · 21/10/2020 11:37

Our midwives have moved completely out of the GP surgery now unfortunately. The midwife office just rings out have tried them and no v-mail option! Nightmare.

That sounds like a nightmare. I've got my 16 week appointment on the telephone next week. It was arranged at my booking appointment. I hope you get to speak to someone soon.

ellenpartridge · 21/10/2020 11:48

Yes I had my 16 week appt face to face yesterday. It was booked in at the booking appt. At the 16 week appt I was given my appointment for 25 weeks so all running pretty normal here.

Milkshake7489 · 21/10/2020 11:52

Mine was a little late but happened face to face. I'd definitely keep chasing them Flowers

Borlotti · 21/10/2020 11:54

I'm 34 weeks pregnant now and am still waiting Hmm

Sanch1 · 21/10/2020 11:56

I've had all my appointments as 'normal' but I know that's not the case for all areas unfortunately. Best to contact you local midwife team/ GP.

Sanch1 · 21/10/2020 11:57

@mumandcub do you have a number for maternity triage on your notes? Perhaps try that if all other routes aren't working?

welshladywhois40 · 21/10/2020 13:36

My 16 week appointment was a 5 min phone call and I had to contact the mw to arrange that.

ForTheLoveOfDoughtnuts · 21/10/2020 13:52

Yes, had my 16 week appointment over the phone yesterday

mumandcub · 21/10/2020 14:08

Thanks all, I have messaged my named midwife a few hours ago to find out but no response. Hopefully I’ll hear something soon. They definitely didn’t say anything about booking in for it myself, I was told she would contact me but never has. Luckily not my first rodeo I guess!

My 8 week booking was face to face, I was also given appointment for 16/17 weeks. I’m in Scotland

MnM156 · 21/10/2020 15:22
