Can you be 'too far gone' to have an epidural?

I realise this has probably been asked but I have heard of women being told they are too far gone to have an epidural.

What does that mean? Is it a decision based on how dilated you are?

I was induced 1st time round and G&A made stoned, pethadine made me horrendously sick but the epidural got me back together.

I am 37 weeks prgt with ds 2 and are not being induced (atm anyway!) and are adamant I would like to have an epidural to help me cope as I did not last time.

I have another app with cosnultant this coming wed to discuss results of GTT test I had on fri (which will be fine as I am eating really sugary crap atm) where I am going to pass on a written list of questions as I know I will cry and not be able to speak coherently -as happened last week!

Thanks for of of your replies, I do feel like a wimp but I thought this birth was going to go a certain way which would be better than the previous and was calm with this plan but now things have changed it has really thrown me so much I have had 2 panic attacks this week when I haven't had one in a year.

Thanks all, hope to see you all out the otherside with a bouncing baby boy
