Emergency contraception, did I do it wrong?

Hi all Smile

Not sure if this post will come across silly or stupid, hopefully not Grin

Had unprotected sex on Saturday night (17/10), so probably around 11pm/12am which may have fallen into the early hours of Sunday morning. From 17th October, ovulation was calculated at 3 days later. I got my dates mixed up hence the freak out to want to take the emergency pill. I was supposed to ovulate today on 20/10 and I had cramps yesterday (much like the ovulation cramps I get).

Anyways yesterday I got Levonorestegrel 1500mcg (Levonelle) from a local pharmacy at a whopping £28.95 (serves me right to not make the same mistake againConfused). I took this at 6.28pm yesterday (19/10). Probably around 42-44 hours after DTD. Experienced slight nausea and a pressing headache and tiredness.

I don't know if I may have already ovulated given my bodily symptoms prior to taking the pill yesterday. Today I have clear sticky discharge- which I also assume is fertile CM. Not really EWCM though. I'm obviously trying to avoid pregnancy, however there is a part of me that doesn't mind too much if it were to happen, just circumstances aren't ideal. I admit that I could've been more careful! But what are my chances of getting pregnant from this really? I know I will probably need to POAS around the time my period is due as the only real way to find out but anyone have any similar stories of being pregnant despite having had taken the emergency pill a day before your tracker calculated "ovulation day"?

Thanks for reading Thanks

If you are worried you would still be in the time frame (up to 5 days) for the coil to be used as emergency contraception. Unlike the pills the coil works if you have already ovulated.

I don't even think my dates were correct according to Flo! It said I ovulated on 20/10, which was yesterday and I took the pill a day before on Monday evening. But I am having lower back cramps and crampy feeling in my pelvic region... which I don't know if it's from taking Levonelle or whether it is ovulation pains? Almost even feels like AF cramps.

But I took the ovulation calculator thing on UK Clear Blue website and it says I am due to ovulate 26/10. Which doesn't make sense... I know we can't really know but now I'm thinking my dates are all mixed up. My cycle is usually between 28-30 days. Mostly 29 days.

Just to add my period came on 8th October with full flow on 9th October but was pretty odd this month. I had what seemed like spotting for some time before the period which I never get and it was slightly late but hardly.

MAP prevents about 85% of conceptions that might otherwise have been expected. By definition they will have had to be from intercourse around the time of ovulation! But as a main effect is disruption ovulation, the (probably) accounts for far more successes than the secondary effects (on mucus and making a more hostile environment generally)

Best bet is to POAS at least 14 days after unprotected sex if period has not arrived. MAP can disrupt cycle, so this is not a time to be symptom spotting. If AF continues AWOL, repeat POAS after a few days

Hmm you're right. I shouldn't really be symptom spotting and the likelihood of me being pregnant actually seems super slim right now as I just don't have the right information on my own cycle and what has gone down. I do regret taking the MAP because that sh*t really does disrupt your biology for however long. Have had pretty stern cramping today and just generally feel moody and antisocial. But guess I shall test on 31/10 post-14 day sex mark.

EWCM today, quite a bit of it. And some back pain too. Could this mean anything? Maybe that I'm ovulating late but I had taken the MAP, so I'm confused. And would the sperm still be alive from Sunday morning/Saturday night? It's now Thursday..

I'm symptom spotting. I really shouldn't.

@aq1995xxx all the symptoms you're experience can be caused by the morning after pill. Of course it could be something else but I'd most likely say it's from the pill.

To be honest I'd say even though not impossible chances are low that you would fall pregnant. As I say the symptoms you'll find will most likely be the pill, it really does mess with your hormones and can cause all sorts of things to happen.

Hang on until the 2 weeks after having sex and test, only way you'll know for sure really!

Fingers crossed you get the answer you want 🤞

Hahahaha not silly i took morning after pill 42 hours after and i was told this would work however im now 23 weeks pregnant so something went wrong x

aq1995xxx · 30/10/2020 00:10

I agree @Lou98 I think it may be caused by the pill. I was pretty symptom-less for the past two days and have had waves of nausea however and just feeling rotten tired. I've tried to stay away from Google as I believe I have the magic ability to IMAGINE my symptoms sometimes Grin but I did do a pregnancy test today and it was a BFN. Not entirely sure when I ovulated but I will probably wait for AF day and if it doesn't come I'll use the last of the FRER to re-test. Smile

@MamaToBeOMG I assume you had already ovulated when you took the MAP! Congrats on your pregnancy however and hope it's going all well for you. I'm not feeling too great at the moment, just very restless (my body) and really tired. Have been sat in bed feeling spacy for the past 3-4 hours. Surely this isn't normal.. Sad I mean it doesn't even have to be pregnancy related but I just feel like sh*t. So emotional and moody too.. looming AF I reckon.
