Big baby!

Hi all- been on Mumsnet for a while but first time I've ever posted!

So I went for my 36 week growth scan this morning (although im 37 weeks)

First thing the lady said was wow what a big baby 😳 I literally couldn't see anything but her head and a quick flash of her spine.
She didn't seemed concerned at all though which is great. She said baby is weighing about 7lb 8oz currently and on the 86th centile.

Sooo Does this mean I'm going to have a whopper of a baby when she makes her entrance in 3weeks?? (I'm having a elective c section at 39+6) and can someone explain the centile thing to me as I don't get it at all 🤣🤣

I've brought all these tiny baby grows and I don't think she'll get a wear out of any of it now 😂 but a happy healthy baby is all the matters 😁

My DS was breech so in the end I had an elective csection at 39 weeks, but there was talk of induction.

First time round it can be a bit of a whirlwind and it feels a bit like it's not your decision but please try to feel that regardless of what they are telling you, this is your birth and you must trust your instincts.

@micc YES YES YES 🙄🙄 mine is still cooking away in there and I’m already feeling the judgement! Made the mistake of updating our family about baby measuring big at scans etc and MILs judgement is clear for all to see 🙄 I was a size 18 pre-pregnancy and have always struggled with my weight but I’ve so far been told that given my size, baby was bound to be chunky...just maybe not THAT chunky 🙄 and “oh for goodness sake! Just how big are we talking? So baby is going to be too big for all those clothes that you’ve gone and wasted money on?!” and my personal favourite “is baby going to fit in the pram?! You’re not going to have to buy another one are you?!” 🤣😂🤣😂 we’re having a chubby baby love, not a 6 year old! Calm down 🙈🤣

@RWK29 the worst is this time round my MIL came up to me and touched my bump, I was only about 32 weeks, she winced and said that's going to be 10lbs. I was like oh great thanks loving life. Someone also said to me, oh your a good size. .... what's that supposed to mean!? Someone said to me when I was pregnant with my daughter... twins? I was at work and I nearly jumped over the till and smacked him ahaha

@micc People are great aren’t they 😂 Don’t even get me started on people at work 😂 I also work with the public 🙈😂 it’s as if people don’t have to have a filter anymore when you’re pregnant and can just say whatever they want to you 😂

I have to share with you a few of the comments I've had 😑🤣

'Wow you sure you're only having one?'
'Oh bless you you're waddling well'
'How long do you think it will take to get back into your pre pregnancy clothes?'
'Your bump is absolutely huge'
'She must be fully cooked now, look at the size of you'

Literally like you said people have no filter 😑😂

I was told DS was going to be over 10lbs and 95th centile but no talk of early induction or section. He was 2 weeks overdue in the end so was induced and then emergency section due to failed induction and fetal distress. He was 9 lbs 4oz at 42 weeks which is 58th centile. Not the whopper predicted. Because Inhave a high BMI I think they think there is a correlation. It was scans that said that at 32 and 36 weeks.

He was robust but had an extra 2 weeks in there but I quite liked he was robust as was easier to handle him.

I am due in 3 weeks and have a scan next week. At 33 weeks they are saying 90th centile and 5 lbs 11oz but on another chart that is only 75th centile. I think it is mainly rubbish. I have a planned section booked due to my first labour so not too fussed and I always felt with DS thst he had a good layer of fat to keep him safe when he got ill.

@hibaby20 “You’re waddling well” 😂🤣 just what every pregnant woman wants to hear 🙈😂
I was serving an elderly man in work and a random lady walked up to me, interrupted my conversation with him and says “Can I just give you one piece of advice? After you give birth and you’re home, dry your ‘downstairs bits’ with a hairdryer and it’ll stop you getting infected” 😅😂 Poor old man looked mortified!

I also have had plenty of “WOW...you are MASSIVE” 😂 oh thaaaaanks 😂

hibaby20 · 23/10/2020 16:56

I know I was just like ok thank you I've gathered that you don't need to tell me 😂😂

I literally can't deal with people at the moment 🤣
