Morning Sickness

Hi,

I'm 8+5 weeks pregnant just now and I've really been struggling with the sickness and just generally feeling down.

It started off as nausea which I could cope with but has progressed since about 6 weeks to full on vomiting. I'm scared to go anywhere more than a few feet away from a toilet I'm being sick that often. Anything I eat comes straight back up then when all that's gone it's just water and bile coming up (sorry tmi!)

I've tried travel sickness bands, keeping crackers etc close by and nibbling on them. I've been sipping my water rather than gulping, I've tried flat cola. Tried napping, taking prenatal a at night instead of morning, nothing seems to be helping and it's just getting worse.

Does anyone have any tips I could try that I haven't already? And how bad did it get for others before they spoke to GP/Midwife or similar? Is there much they can do?

I'd give your GP a call and see if you can get some meds. Cyclizine did the trick for me but there are a few you can try and it really is worth it even if they just take the edge off. Good luck!

Sorry to hear you’re feeling so rubbish and down. I second what @bm2021 says, cyclizine will definitely help and if you’re vomiting that much then I’m sure they’ll give you some. I hope you’re feeling better soon x

Don't put up with this and don't bother with the midwife. You need to speak to your GP about anti sickness medicine. They might ask for a urine sample and give you some tablets. If it's as severe as it sounds you need something to help and it's best to ask now before you end up dehydrated and on a drip at hospital. I had this for 25 weeks and it was miserable but the tablets did help. Good luck!

@bm2021 @Humpty11 @MyCassiopiea thank you, will definitely give my GP a phone, this is my first baby and I just wasn't sure if it was something I needed to deal with or not.

It has been bad. Having to force myself to eat and make sure I'm drinking loads of water because it's all just coming back out, I have been worrying a bit about getting dehydrated when I'm losing so much fluids!

Thank you!

Just dawned on me that I have cyclizine in the cupboard that was prescribed to me (pre pregnancy) for sickness caused by vertigo.

Would you take this? Is it the same dose etc or would you speak to a GP first?

Speak to your GP first, but it really sounds as if you need something.

Superscientist · 19/10/2020 22:37

Speak to your gp to ask about restarting the cyclizine and make sure you check the expiry date before taking any of you get gp approval - at least you won't have to make a trip to the pharmacy if the gp agrees to you taking it!

raspberryjamlove · 20/10/2020 09:46

I was going to suggest cyclizine too. In my last pregnant I turned up at my dr a sobbing wreck begging her to give me something. I felt so ill. These really helped thank goodness hopefully they will for you too. I'm currently 6.5 weeks and the nausea is real but no vomiting yet, I remember week 9 being horrific last time so I'm getting nervous xx

MimiDaisy11 · 20/10/2020 09:51

Have you tried anything with ginger? There's evidence that helps. I drink ginger ale and that helps me.

I'm over 6 weeks and I'm getting nausea regularly so hoping it doesn't get worse. At least it doesn't continue through the pregnancy and doesn't usually go past week 16 - at least according to NHS site.

Seeline · 20/10/2020 11:33

Ginger did absolutely nothing for me. And 19 years on I still can't face anything with ginger in it!

Lou98 · 20/10/2020 18:27

@raspberryjamlove this is exactly how I feel, I've been crying on and off for the past few days because I'm just not getting a break from it at all, being sick at least once an hour but usually more!

I don't want to be ungrateful at all as we tried for 2 years for this baby and after a MC at the start of the year I'm over the moon about it but I've just been feeling so down because of the sickness 😔

@MimiDaisy11 I've tried ginger and it's not made a difference at all, I really hoped it would!

I've tried bands, ginger, nibbling on crackers etc, mints, ice poles, eating little amounts throughout the day instead of at once, sipping water. Nothing I've tried is helping at all😔

I phoned the GP today and they've put me in for a phone appointment tomorrow so fingers crossed they'll be able to give me something to help!
