When does baby have a movement pattern?

Hello, I'm 26+5 weeks with my first baby. I also have an anterior placenta. I didn't feel movements until about 22 weeks. I feel kicks now but the pattern is still very variable- some evening's I feel lots, other nights just a few. During the day I might feel some or very few, although I'm working so distracted most of the time.

My worry is how would I tell if my baby is having reduced movements since the pattern is so variable? Or is it still too early to monitor? I tried to ask my midwife but she didn't really give me an answer. Perhaps I should wait a few more weeks before getting worried about it?

I had a pattern from 20 weeks but my baby was all at the front and was facing my stomach so I felt everything from early on.
They usually say a pattern is established from 24 weeks but aloof of pregnant ladies don't have patterns.
I'd make a log of babies movements for the next few days and then have a chat with MAU instead of your midwife. They may have you in for a check up on baby, to our your mind at rest.
It is common for movement to be sporadic at your stage of pregnancy xxx

Its more after 28 weeks that they say there should be more of a recognisable pattern. Having said that I have been in twice this weekend for reduced movements at 28 weeks and both times they've said there is still space for baby to move around and get in an awkward position and that the pattern may still be developing. You'll have a hunch/intuition if something isnt right and if so call triage and go in for monitoring. My unit didnt question when I mentioned reduced movements and told me to come straight in.

Hopefully this helps. Any concerns with movement, make sure you call triage.

I has absolutely no pattern, apart from the pattern of as soon as I got to the hospital for reduced movements she would start up!

Don't worry if they don't get a pattern as long as you feel something

Thanks for your comments. I'm not really worried just now, although I'm happier on the days I feel lots of movement! Just don't want to keep getting worried if my baby isn't much of a kicker. But if baby has no pattern it's hard to notice if things aren't right!

I noticed no discernible pattern whatsoever, felt like a terrible mother before I even had her 😂

I’m currently 26+3 and recently decided to buy one of the Kicks Counts bracelets to monitor movement - it’s really helped with my anxiety over baby movements because ultimately I can monitor if the baby is being consistent or if we are having a quiet day which I’ve had a couple the past 2 weeks but these have been days where I have been non-stop. I really recommend them and you can get them from their website for not a lot x

Baby’s won’t get into a regular pattern until around 28 weeks. As long as you’re feeling baby it’s a good sign. But never be afraid to call midwives if your worried
