Hi So far I am low risk however I've had 6 scans all together I've had one early scan at 9weeks as I've had a MC previously I then had my 12 weeks can at the hospital and I went to get a gender scan as I couldn't wait until my anomaly appointment I then got my 20weeks scan but because baby's position we had to re-do it so I then had to get another one at 22weeks and literally couple hours ago I had a growth scan privately just to see how baby's doing and they offered a 3D preview I didn't know that have to many scans was bad until I saw it on the internet I will not be having any more scans unless my midwife says I need to .

Women in higher risk pregnancies often have many scans for the health of them and their baby so I really wouldn't worry about the scans you've had so far, particularly if you're not intending to have further scans unless they are needed. Need can come from lots of things, including your own reassurance and wellbeing.

I think the guidance is that as they do not know the possible outcomes from lots of ultrasounds, they advise to minimize them, not that they know a certain number is definitely bad.

I don't think you can say it's 'bad' as there isn't really the proof for it- not that I'm aware.

In some parts of the world, pregnant women- even the low risk ones- get monthly scans, and even weekly toward the end.

I've had 8 scans during my pregnancy and not once have I worried that I have had too many scans! It's been reassuring that hes growing well, healthy and no abnormallys have been picked up! My last scan was a private one at 33 weeks and all showed a healthy baby and no concerns. I had 2 at the EPU due to bleeding early on, 3 private scans, 1 a&e scan due to severe pains and the routine NHS scans at 12 weeks and 20 weeks.
