I bought one of the cheap pound tests from asda - I have had iregular bleeding for months and it had all of sudden stopped so I hoped finally that I have conceived i have read online that some tests can give false positives though and as the line isn't the same colour I'm scared of getting my hope's up.

How long ago did it stop?

Oneandabean · 18/10/2020 20:06

Usually if the line isn’t the same colour it’s more likely to be an evap.

Rawraw6217 · 18/10/2020 20:23

If you're looking for confirmation as to whether it is an evap line or the real deal, I recommend taking two tests and using water for the second. It'll be a lot easier to compare and contrast that way. I'm in the exact same place at the moment, and it looks like the faint line is getting darker. Early days but things look good!

@Oneandabean

Usually if the line isn’t the same colour it’s more likely to be an evap.
I suppose it depends on the line, but my experience - via friends and research - suggests the very opposite is true
Oneandabean · 18/10/2020 22:38

@Rawraw6217 my positive lines have always been the same colour as the control line.

Sophie2309 · 18/10/2020 23:16

What colour was the lines? If by different colour you mean one was a lot darker than the other, it could still be a positive. If blue dye is used on tests, these can give a false positive by showing a evap line. If it's a pink dye test, I'd say it's more likely to be a faint positive. If you're early into a pregnancy, the test line will not be anywhere near as dark as the control line

Sammey1991 · 19/10/2020 09:45

The lines were pink - just one was extremely light!
I first tested on Thursday so I went and bought 2 more tests to be sure I did a clear blue one on Thursday too that came up saying pregnant 1-2 - but this morning I did the other cheapy asda and it came up with an even fainter line!
I think im just paranoid because of the bleeding previously that something is going to go wrong and with the line not being strong it makes me more wary! - I wish I had waited a few more weeks before testing! lol x

I last bled on the 18th of September - but because I had been bleeding every couple of weeks I wasn't sure if that was ovulation bleeding or period its been so hard to tell lately! I went for smear and colposcopy due to irregular bleeding but luckily all came back fine x

Were you typically pretty far along (15+ dpo)? That might be part of the reason, although I know people who found out very late (10 weeks+) because they assumed their faint line results had been negatives all along, yet they still weren't bleeding. I think it's more common with pink line tests than it is with blue.

Sophie2309 · 19/10/2020 11:15

@Sammey1991 I'd wait a week or so and test again. Buy the Wilko tests.... 2 pack for £1. That's what I used and they are really good! Being pink dye, even a faint line is more likely to be a positive than evap. I was TTC for just over 2 years and never got evap lines with the Wilko tests, only ever positive once I fell pregnant. With the irregular bleeding you could be very early on like the clear blue one shows which would cause a faint line on the asda ones and the HCG levels aren't high yet. Try Wilko ones, and pee into a container and tip the test into that, rather than into the stream of pee as you are actually going as I find this a much better way to test.

@Sophie2309 Thankyou that's great advice I will do ... from looking online this morning I did a pregnancy calculator and if I go by saying my last period was the 18th of September (which I originally thought would of been ovulation bleeding) then it tallys with the clear blue 1-2 weeks - just so confusing feels like been on period constantly for last 5 months so never knew what was what with the bleeding.. now its stopped im so praying I am - I will wait until next week and test again to be sure! x

Ovulation bleeding? What do you mean by that? Do you bleed around ovulation?

Sammey1991 · 19/10/2020 14:06

@PurplePansy05 because I was bleeding every 2 weeks for about 5 months I started putting it down to ovulation bleeding - i googled it an apparently it is a posibility?! I only really put it down to this as when I was going for an ultrasound due to bleeding to find out what was wrong the lady said she could see an egg about to be released and i was actually bleeding at the time of the scan

That's unsual, OP. Have you had your hormone levels tested? This or endometriosis? Is the bleeding similar to your menstruation bleeding? If so, this shouldn't be happening mid-cycle.

Anyway, fingers crossed for you, I'd test again in few days' time with a standard test and a digital one how many weeks to check your progression.

Hi all,

Just an update for you all - unfortunately I had a chemical pregnancy :( I tested positive from the 15th till around the 20th I had 2 clear blues that said positive digital one read pregnant 1-2 and had the cross one. I also tested positive with the really faint lines which I wasn't sure were evap lines hense the start of this feed as were a lot fainter but definitely lines from the asda pound ones.
On the 22nd I woke up and suddenly my boobs were no longer hurting they were so heavy and stingy for about 3 days then suddenly nothing. I felt completely different to what I had been feeling like something wasn't right I felt back to normal and just un-pregnant like! so I went and got another test and it came back negative I did a further one to confirm that was also negative. I called in sick as I couldn't bear to go in and then just waited and sure enough that day I started bleeding small clots came out during Thursday evening and Friday (sorry tmi)
I was gutted. It was only a week of thinking I was pregnant but I was starting to get my hopes up. I hadn't even heard of a chemical pregnancy until now!
I will definitely be trying again when I can. at least I no what to be wary of this time and I will just pray it doesn't happen again! x
