Bleeding at 12 weeks

Hi, I am hoping others have experienced similar and it's not necessarily bad news...

I am 12 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Had a scan at 9 weeks privately which showed everything was as expected and okay. Yesterday (Saturday) I wiped and had a decent amount of bright red blood and a tablespoon sized clot. Panicked and went to A&E as my midwife said she couldn't get me an appointment until Monday.

During my wait at the hospital I filled two pads with watery but bright red blood. They examined me and said while there was a fair amount of blood, the neck of the womb was closed. They did a very quick scan and could see the baby there and moving. They gave me open access to the ward as a precaution and said to wait for my NHS scan on Tuesday.

Last night the bleeding slowed and became more brown. This morning it is only slight spotting and very brown.

It took me three years to get pregnant. I'm so worried this isn't going to end well. I had no bleeding in my first pregnancy. Has anyone had anything similar? How did it work out?

It's a horrible anxious wait Thanks
Obviously nobody can give you an answer but I have been on both outcomes of this(2nd and 3rd pregnancies) and the fact it's been watery and everything is looking good with baby is very encouraging. I ended up being put on aspirin the second time around (3rd pregnancy) and went to due date.

Wishing you well OP

Mishmased · 18/10/2020 11:59

@coffeecow are you in pain? Try not to worry as pp said it could be just bleeding and at least baby looks fine.x

coffeecow · 18/10/2020 12:45

Not any real pain, just a bit of pain in my groin area. No cramping or anything. Which I am hoping is a good sign. My heart absolutely fell out of my chest when I saw the blood. I just so hope this is nothing to worry about.

I hope everything is okay at your scan on Tuesday.

I bled at 12 weeks and it lasted until 16 weeks. I was terrified having had 3 miscarriages prior. Mine was a sub-chronic haematoma near my placenta. It was a nervy time but it stopped and everything was fine in the end.

Hi @coffeecow. I had a bleed at just before 12 weeks (had previous brown discharge throughout first trimester and 2 small bleeds at 8/9 weeks). This came totally out the blue and was quite heavy, like you said no pain. My hospital trip sounds similar to yours - baby looked very wriggly on the scan and the examination showed lots of blood but everything looked ok otherwise. They were unable to find the cause of the bleeding, the doctor who did the scan queried if there was a small hematoma but she wasn't sure if it was that or just tissue. Am now 30 weeks and so grateful to have had no issues since about 14 weeks. Wishing you all the best and I hope it works out well for you.

I had a bleed too just around 10 weeks pregnant and everything was fine, I am think it was the stressful day also very emotional just when those Covid things happened. So, try not to stress yourself don’t go over hot bath. I am sure everything is fine. What I have done when I bleed just went to the local hospital with tears and explained the situation as an emergency. I didn’t wait until days or so for appointment could happen anything. My GP gave me good advice if you worry about like bleeding just go there straight away. So, I went to the hospital after check the nurse said that my cervix is close which is a good sign, I was still bleed a bit.. I am 41 weeks pregnant now. Good luck xx

Hi,

I found out a week ago I am pregnant started bleeding very lightly a few days after, it got heavier as the day went on. I've had a ectopic in the past which left me with one tube, so doctor sent me to the hospital they confirmed my pregnancy by a urine sample no bloods or scan was done and no scan was booked, all I got told that my cervix is closed and not to worry. The bleeding has stopped and now I have started again but it very light more light spotting I am now left wondering if I'm still pregnant or if its in my tube again, my pregnancy test are still coming back positive. Don't know what to do now would it be worth ringing my GP and getting bloods and a scan booked? I don't know how far along I am either xx

coffeecow · 18/10/2020 19:47

Hi @Hbish96 I would definitely think about getting checked out again, just for your own piece of mind if nothing else.

Thanks everyone else for your stories, I am so hoping it is just 'one of those things'.

Unfortunately, all you can do just wait until minimum 6 weeks. They don’t even want to offer scan until you are 12 weeks pregnant. I had miscarriage before and when I start bleeding about 5 weeks my GP said you can’t do nothing with is she booked me for scan and it was confirmed I don’t have anything left unfortunately and she reassure me that’s everything happens for reason I know it doesn’t help a lot I was depressed but after all I have a healthy pregnancy with my first one and now waiting for another one. When I get pregnant after my miscarriage I went for private scan as I bleed again about 5 weeks. So, they confirmed my pregnancy but no heart beat at that time as it was a bit early. Anyway all good now!!! Unfortunately, in very early weeks it may happen I was going to toilet every day and scare to wipe myself after all what was happened. But nothing you can do with it it unfortunately. As long you haven’t passed any tissue with the blood you are fine(sorry for that) as when I had a miscarriage it heavy bleed with something:( good luck to you hun and keep us updated xx

I've had more bleeding this evening and it's red again. I'm so worried and afraid and upset.

@coffeecow bleeding during pregnancy is absolutely terrifying. I really hope it's good news for you xx

shesgonebatshitagain · 18/10/2020 22:33

Could it be a subchorionic haematoma?
Sorry I know myself the bleeding is so frightening,

Hope that it’s nothing directly related to your baby.
Can you call the epu and get a scan for first thing?

gettingupearlyzzzz · 18/10/2020 23:12

As someone else has said it is absolutely awful having bleeding in pregnancy.
I had a big bleed, red blood, at 14-15 weeks, same as you I had to wait a while to see EPU and was convinced it was all over. After some investigation they said it was an issue with cervix, hormonal change. Look this up on google because apparently it happens A LOT and is no issue for the baby at all.
I really hope you get some sleep tonight, if still really bad tomorrow maybe try calling GP (as they can refer to EPU too) and try and push for an appointment tomorrow instead of Tuesday?
Thinking of you and wishing you well Thanks

Hi. I had bleeding at 12 weeks. It's a horrible experience. I am now 26 weeks. My bleeding was bright red and a sudden gush then eased but I continued to get spotting for a week. They couldn't see what was causing it.
I hope everything works out ok for you. X

coffeecow · 19/10/2020 09:35

Thank you everyone for the positive stories and advice. It has slowed down again overnight and is once again brown and slightly stringy. So old blood I am assuming? Was very alarmed to see red blood again. I'm resting as much as possible and just hoping that it's good news at tomorrow's scan. So worrying.

Mishmased · 20/10/2020 14:56

@coffeecow hope all is well. I have a hematoma and still bleed at 8 weeks.

coffeecow · 20/10/2020 15:56

Thanks all. I had my scan this afternoon and all looked well. Fingers crossed it was just one of those things and everything continues as it should. Thank you for the support!
