Hey i've just joined the site and move from North Shields to Berwick a few months ago.. Was just wondering if there's anyone from the local area on here?
I tried having a look at the 'Local sites'for things to do round here but no page for Berwick, closest is Newcaslte, Edinburgh and Galashields.
Anyway i'm due 16th Oct so not long to go, will have to travel to wansbeck though as my baby is a bit smaller than average and they'd rather me give birth there as apparently smaller babies are more likely to get stressed during labour. So i'm really looking forward to the 1 hour car journey whilst in labour

Ohhh why did you move from North Sheilds? I could have helped you out then!!!!!!! I live near ChristChurch??

Wansbeck, crickey, that seems a bit unfair.

How are you finding Berwick?

Dalrymps · 12/10/2007 23:14

I moved up here cause my husbands parents live here and it's a nice place to bring up a family, all our university friends ad moved away from newcaslte so it was just us left there! Finding it ok, enjoying walking te dog on the beach, my brother in law and his partner and our nepew live here too so good to be able to see the little one when we want. Still drive through to newc to go shoping quite a lot though!
Yeah I know wansbeck is ages away but it's the same for everyone in Berwick, if you're not totally low risk you can't give birth at the local unit, I was gonna until about a month ago when they realised he was small.
Where abouts is ChristChurch?

yes, its lovely up there - the coast is fab. We often think of moving up the coast a bit.

Christchurch is on Albion Rd - just as you come into Shields - there are two grotty pubs by the traffic lights? Anyway, fairly central N Sheilds. We've been here about 5 yrs now - we moved up from Manchester tho I come from here originally. I have 3 wee ones.

I don't really know Berwick that well for things to do for kids, but I guess you will have a bit of time to find that out.

I hope everything goes ok for you.....I'm sure it will

Dalrymps · 12/10/2007 23:27

oh yeah i've heard of Albion rd, i know roughly where you mean. yeah it is lovely up here, as you say i'll have time to find things to do once the baby comes, it's my first so it'll all be new!
thats quite a long way yo have moved from manchester, you sound well settled though.
Ah well nice of you to chat anyway, it's a shame i'm not still in NS. Have a nice weekend

Dalrymps, come and join us on the North of the Border thread. Can't think of anyone from Berwick (ahem...it is north of the border, isn't it? . Near enough anyway), but there are people from all over Scotland and theLady is in the borders somewhere (perhaps she's the Galashiels connection?) and is due in Dec I think.

In the meantime, good luck with the birth.

liath · 13/10/2007 20:44

Hi Dalrymps - definitely come & join the North of the border thread, we're a friendly bunch, lots of bumps & babies. I'm in Edinburgh but grew up near Berwick and my parents still live in that neck of the woods.

Jbck · 14/10/2007 12:18

Hi Dalrymps DH is from Galashiels & still has family there but we live in Central Scotland. It might not be relevant but when he was being born & in distress his Mum was rushed to Edinburgh would it not be a wee bit closer for you? My geography is rubbish so maybe not, plus it's a fair few years ago now
I'm due 11/11 but babe has dropped quite a bit last few days & I'm feeling like she's hanging somewhere down about my knees when I walk so might not hang on that long, fingers crossed. I was induced with my DD so I'm hoping this one will be the opposite & make an early entrance.
Good luck, you might not be on the pg board much longer!

Hey there, to be honest it's not much furter to edinburgh but it is a little bit, from berwick theres a choice of going to the borders general near galashields or wansbeck, they are both an hour from here but the road to borders is all little country lanes where as it is mostly A1 to wansbeck so not so bumpy and twisty, i think it takes about 1 hour 15mins to get to edinburgh from here so as i say not much further but i don't get the choice of that one!
Ah well hopefully he'll pop out soon and i'll not have to worry where i'm going cause it'll be done and i can just enjoy the cuddles! sounds like yours is eager to get out.. mine still doesn't feel too low down but feeling a lot of pressure in my pelvis today so think he's getting there . Good luck with yours, you know what sex it's gonna be or you having a surprise?

2 scans have said it's another girl but I'm a bit cautious so haven't told anyone & only bought 2 wee pink things.
Just found out at the weekend DH has told several of his friends & as my DD had let it slip to her Gran & Papa, they've told loads of rellies. Another friend followed me into a shop to see what clothes I was looking at so basically everyone probably knows. Maybe the LO will surprise us all & I'll be glad I didn't blab!

primigravida · 15/10/2007 16:17

I got my BFP in Berwick upon Tweed when we were spending a weekend there. It's such a lovely town. I'm due on the 20th October. Unfortunately, I live in Manchester so I can't help out with local things. Good luck with the birth. Sorry to hear you'll have to travel an hour in labour.

Dalrymps · 15/10/2007 19:27

jbck, yeah as you say it's never 100% with the scans especially when they say it's a girl, having said that, if it was me i'd probably have bought loads of pink thing as i'm terribly impatient, i've tried to resist buying blue things but that idea went out of the window months ago
primigravida, yeah it is a lovely town, i think it's quite a popular place to come stay, i love the beach here!
