Baby is 36 hours old, she’s feeding but only staying on for literally minutes. My milk hasn’t come in yet not sure if I’m doing right or if she’s getting enough?

Is there a local lactation person you can see? Xx

She’s still tiny so don’t panic! Her tummy is literally the size of a marble at this stage. Get into bed with her, lots of skin to skin. Feed whenever she shows any interest at all.

The best way to make sure she is getting enough is to monitor her output. You want as many wet nappies in 24 hours as she is days old (day she is born counts as day 0) and at least two poos. Her poos should start to change from black by about day 3, and be yellow by day 5.

Are you at home? Have you had a visit from a midwife?

How has she been feeding until now?

Has it always been like this, or is it a change in pattern?

How do your breasts feel? Soft, or round and full?
