Reduced movement

I’m 31 weeks pregnant and have concerns about reduced movement. I’ve tried all my usual tricks (cold water, 20 minute lie down, jumping jacks) and didn’t feel anything. I called my labour ward and they said to monitor for an hour, and then call back if I’m still concerned.

I’ve been lying down and counting for half an hour now and have felt a small amount of movement in that time, but lots less and less strong than is usual for the evening. Is that sufficient reassurance, or does the fact that it’s not as frequent or strong as usual mean I should still be concerned?

I would still be phoning up and requesting to go in. Even for keeping peace of mind for yourself. Hope everythings ok 💗

Any change in movements should be looked into. I was monitored closely in my last pregnancy due to high bp and was always advised to get checked out even if movements had ‘slowed’.

Definitely phone in. I am sure all is fine but just for your own peace of mind and a good nights sleep :)

I have gone in even after I've felt a little more movement but not as much as I'd usually feel and they were happy to have me.

You won't regret phoning up and going in :)

Definitely get any movement changes checked. Don’t rely on drinking cold/fizzy drinks etc. Midwives don’t recommend that as a reliable way of checking baby’s ok. My midwife said if you were feeling ill and someone poured cold water on you, you’d probably move a bit too, doesn’t mean your ok. Definitely push to be checked

Thanks everyone. Still haven’t felt enough to reassure me so I’m going to call back once the hour is up. I really appreciate you all offering advice! Flowers

Just back from hospital - all is fine! The baby is chilling behind my anterior placenta and cushioning the kicks so I can’t feel them, but heartbeat is good and midwife was very reassuring.

Thank you for encouraging me to go - I feel so much better! And they were so kind and reassured me that going in was the right thing to do. I will definitely encourage anyone who is unsure in future to go in and get checked.
