I went for a 16 week private scan today to find out if we are having a boy or a girl- another little boy and he was very healthy which I'm thrilled about.
However, at the start of the scan the sonographer identified a couple of issues. She said she thought I had an 'amniotic shelf' which was thick and tethered at both ends, she said it didn't look like an amniotic band which is more serious, and that the baby was able to move away from it freely, which was also good.
She noted a hematoma, 'adjacent to the placenta'- this I knew about as I'd had a bleed in early pregnancy. However as my womb has grown it seems it has possibly split in two/moved as I now have another, what she described as 'haemorrhage', at the leading edge of the placenta, by my cervix.
She said the placement of it could be an issue because of it being near my cervix, and that I could experience some bleeding.
Obviously it being a private scan there was no doctor there, and she said a doctor will discuss it all with me at my 20 week scan. Just shitting my pants really as even after a good google I can't work out whether any of these things are an issue or not- maybe it depends on the size/type/location of both the bleeds and the shelf? The shelf would make sense as it apparently attaches to scar tissue and I had a tricky 1st birth with a huge bleed and retained placenta.
Thanks in advance for any help!
