I never had them with my first, and always assumed it was more of a 3rd trimester thing but today my stomach is going rock solid and then easing up. I've got a little discomfort aswell, it's taking my breath away at first but I'm able to continue conversations etc.

No pattern to tightenings. Seem to happen in clusters, then I'm OK for a bit.

Call triage. When I had that during last pregnancy around the same time they said to take paracetamol and have a bath. For me, it eased off after an hour or two. Had them often during the rest of my pregnancy (but probably not every day).

But best to call triage for advice.

It's eased off again but I'll definitely call if it happens again.

I got braxton hicks every day from about 20 weeks and was my first pregnancy. I didn't know any different I thought it was just normal for them to start that early. I gave birth at 39+4

OnNaturesCourse · 12/10/2020 22:54

Does it sound like braxton hicks, like yours?

With my second pregnancy I started getting them super early, around 20 weeks. I think it's because your body is now practiced in contractions due to already having a baby and it starts to have tightening a lot sooner xx

changednamealways · 12/10/2020 23:06

I got them most days from 18 weeks in first pregnancy, gave birth at 37 weeks:)

MnM156 · 12/10/2020 23:31

I have been having braxton hicks since 20 weeks. They only last like 10/15 seconds and then ease off. They don't come everyday...just very randomly and then go away as soon as they come. Mentioned it to the midwife who said it was very normal.

MnM156 · 12/10/2020 23:32

Just want to add that I am now almost 29 weeks and have less of them now than at week 20.

Hatepickinganame · 12/10/2020 23:35

Ive been having them since about 16 weeks. Im now nearly 32 and this weekend they've been more painful than uncomfortable, to the point i started to time them on sat. My midwife today said if that happens again to call delivery suite straight away for advice. So as long as tjey arent painful at all and no pattern you should be ok

CoalCraft · 13/10/2020 06:34

Sounds very much like Braxton Hicks. I've been getting them since 19 weeks, and very regularly since 22-23 weeks. I get them every day, sometimes only a few, sometimes constantly every 10-30 mins, all day long. Can be quite distressing but I've rung triage twice about it and been told not to worry unless they're painful and rhythmic, and they're neither. Midwife seems a bit baffled by it - sometimes I'm not sure she believes me when I say how frequent they are.

But I'm 27+5 now so it's been going on for a long time and baby doesn't seem affected. Maybe I just have an irritable uterus.

jdy123 · 13/10/2020 08:38

@OnNaturesCourse yeah deffo sound like them. It just felt like a wave of tightness and my belly would be hard and I'd be able to feel how high up my uterus was.
Some days i used to get them for a few hours at a time, on and off, but they were never painful. Midwife was never concerned but said they should never be painful and if they are to ring triage

OnNaturesCourse · 13/10/2020 10:55

Just out from the midwife and she's not concerned. Baby seems happy and fine where he is. I think so long as I can continue a conversation, and the timings/pain doesn't increase with each one then I'm OK according to her. Thank you everyone.

I had them regular from 20 weeks, so entirely possible. Smile

Hello, hope everyone is doing well and having a good day so far.

I am currently 26 weeks pregnant with 5th baby. Have been having non stop Braxton hicks for the past 3 weeks. Cant remember them being this early with my other pregnancies. Like you said, roughly a 3rd trimester sort of thing. They also make my tummy go tight and hard and then ease off. I get them a lot and discussed them over the ohoneneith my midwife and she said that you need to keep an eye in them, if they're then getting painful then ring labour ward. So far, am coping, they're uncomfortable but not painful.
