Yes exactly what the title says I can't stop eating baby powder. I know it can't be good for me I've done it in previous pregnancy's too Blush I've still got 13 weeks left help!

It’s called “pica” - google it! Lots of pregnant women have strange cravings to eat/sniff non-food related and sometimes toxic things during pregnancy.
It’s a bit of an unknown mystery I believe, some people think it can be linked to a vitamin deficiency.
I used to crave the smell of petrol and turps with my pregnancy and had an urge to drink it - talc isn’t quite so bad!

Frankiegoes · 11/10/2020 18:33

Surely that can be really harmful to you as there are studies that have found that using baby powder can cause cancer. Why not try to eat something similar like flour or icing sugar instead?

Bleepbloopblarp · 11/10/2020 18:33

Disclaimer: I didn’t actually drink it thoughGrin

Newmother321 · 11/10/2020 18:34

@whousedmyname definetly not good, talc contains trace amounts of heavy metals. Fight the urge! You've got our support mama! :)

I'm 37+4 and I want to chew on chalk (like blackboard chalk) and drink pine disinfectant.

I've got rennies and bitter lemon... it's a poor substitute 🤷‍♀️

My midwife prescribed me some pills called AdCal D3 which is calcium and vitamin D which seemed to make it better...

Is it the talc-y-ness of the powder or the smell you really want? Wondering if there are any substitutes...

WhoUsedMyName · 11/10/2020 19:49

I think it's mostly the feel of the powder

You need iron!

EmilySpinach · 11/10/2020 20:15

Yes, it’s pica. Speak to your midwife.

Cantbutwill · 11/10/2020 21:39

I think it might be a magnesium deficiency. I used to crave white chalk when not pregnant, started taking magnesium and it helped. You’d need to check if it’s safe to take magnesium when pregnant though. Definitely don’t eat talc.

WhoUsedMyName · 12/10/2020 20:31

I've been doing some research and talc seems to be a really common one too

I had a really bad craving for dove soap when I was pregnant from 32 weeks it had to be doveGrin like I physically ate at least 2 bars a day it was so bad, loved the feeling of it in my mouth looking back now have I only just realised how weird it is was hahaha!! told midwife and she just laughed and said least the people will come out clean wasn't worried in the slightest, my iron was really low tho so not sure if that played a part
Soon as I gave birth the craving went and haven't ate a bar of soap since HmmGrin

chloe23x · 12/10/2020 22:23

Baby** not people hahaha

WhoUsedMyName · 13/10/2020 08:06

🤣🤣how many people did you have in there . It's so weird isn't it that we will eat things that aren't edible but has to be a certain brand x

Errr I really wouldn't.

There is a huge lawsuit worth 100s of millions of dollars which was just lost by the manufacturers of talc in the last couple of weeks because it has been proven to cause cancer in high doses/regular users
