So my waters have broken but no contractions yet! How soon after eaters breaking did people start having contractions? I've been told if I've not gone into labour in 24 hours I need to be induced which I'm keen to avoid!

After waters breaking*

Well, I don't know tbh because with all three of my births my waters only went when I was fully dilated and about to start pushing.

But I just thought I'd pop on to wish you well, because things are going to happen fairly soon. Best of luck!

imissthesouth · 11/10/2020 02:36

Mine was pretty much immediately, I'm sure you'll be fine though, please try not to worry, everything will be fine, good luck❤️

Mine broke at about 1am and I was told to go back to bed and phone in the morning (hard to sleep after that wakes you up!)

I got up 5 hours later and the contractions had started, they were very mild at that point. I went to hospital at about 2pm as they were close together enough and my baby was born after 7pm (2nd baby)

Good luck with it all, I hope you can get some sleep or at least rest Smile

My waters went at midnight, they could detect contractions on the ctg monitoring around 2.30 am but I could not feel them. I started to feel them at about 3.30 (3 in 10 but only 30 seconds in duration). They were 3 in 10 and 60 seconds at 7 30 ish. At 9 am I was 2 cm, we went back at 11.30 and I was now fully dilated baby born an hour later.

Have you been offered a sweep? They were going to give me one before they saw the contractions on the monitoring but a friend at the same hospital 2 days earlier was only offered one after the 24h mark. Also just a heads up at my hospital the induction criteria is that you are having 3 contractions in 10 minutes that last at least a minute and not just contractions have started my friend above was only having 2 in 10 and was shocked that they still needed to induce her. Ask what the criteria is in your hospital so you can prepare yourself.

I hope things start moving for you it was a nervy wait for the contractions to get going and baby to be born with induction looming.

BeMorePacific · 11/10/2020 03:08

I ended up being induced due to blood in my waters. But got to meet my baby the next day. Try and get some sleep. Good luck!!

With my first water went in the am, slowly. Contractions Pm. He arrived the next afternoon.

THNG5 · 11/10/2020 03:18

With my first, I started contracting immediately after my waters breaking.
I then went on to have planned c sections with my next 3 for various reasons but with my fourth, my waters broke at 37 weeks, 2 and a half weeks before my planned section, so I went straight to hospital to be checked as it was best I didn't go into natural labour. Baby was born 21 hours later by c section but I never once had any contractions 🤷‍♀️

DC2. After my waters broke , mild regular contractions started after 6 hours. Midwife asked me to go in for a swab to confirm waters broke, which was positive. Given 24 hours from waters breaking for labour to progress naturally and preliminarily booked for induction if not delivered then. Since waters broke, midwife was reluctant to examine/sweep me unnecessarily for fear of infection tracking up.

Went home, relentlessly bounced on my birthing ball. At 18 hours, seriously strong contractions kicked in, went back in, 5cm dilated. Baby born at 21 hours via waterbirth.

Good luck!

Crockof · 11/10/2020 03:56

So excited for you. Hope you are getting some rest and baby comes soon.

Happy2be · 11/10/2020 04:22

My waters went about half 12 at lunch and then contractions started 19 hours late. Our trust allows 48 hours from waters going and then they like to book inductions.

SassyPants87 · 11/10/2020 06:52

Thanks all definitely started contracting quite regularly but only about 30 seconds

Can I ask what colour people's waters were, mines pink but everywhere I've read it's either clear or straw coloured?

My waters was clear. Have you been checked by midwives yet? If not, I would ring the midwives and just let them know if I were you. My midwife gave me a list of signs to look out for after my waters broke, I remember one it is is bloody waters.

You are doing great! Cheering you on!

FourPlasticRings · 11/10/2020 08:27

Call and tell them the waters are pink, OP.

SassyPants87 · 11/10/2020 09:27

They checked my waters when I was in the hospital and they said the pink was fine but it was only a little bit of pink then. There's quite a bit of it now. Maybe I'll give them a call
