9 weeks pregnant bleeding and passing large clots

Hi all,

Please help!

I had a scan on Monday and baby was doing perfectly- strong heartbeat and measuring 8 weeks 2 days as expected. Then, on Friday I had some light bright red bleeding which got progressively worse until I stood up about 20 minutes later and 3 or so lemon sized dark red blood clots fell out. No pain or cramping and completely out of the blue. I have a scan on Tuesday to see whether I’ve lost the baby but I’m absolutely terrified. Any advice or similar experiences ? :(

Hi I'm sorry you are going through this. It is so scary but if you haven't had any cramping then that's a good sign.

I had a hematoma when I was pregnant with my daughter and I bled on and off from 6-9 weeks with one very heavy bleed and clots but all was ok I'm the end. It was terrifying at the time.

It might be worth calling the EPU for advice but they may say just wait for your scan on Tuesday.

I really hope all is ok and your bleeding settles down over night X x

Thank you so so much for your reassurance, I really appreciate hearing it.

I’m praying that my situation is similar to yours!

I am sorry you have experienced this as I know how scary it is to see red blood when pregnant.

I had a huge bleed at 9.5 weeks, bright red blood out of nowhere literally gushed out of me along with a big clot (that we thought was the sac). No pain or cramps. We called our midwife office and spoke to the on duty midwife who said it was pretty conclusively a miscarriage by our description (I live in the USA). I passed another clot the following morning and then had some very light brown & dark red spotting on and off and another clot a few days later. For a week I thought I had miscarried as my husband & midwives were convinced, so I didn’t even go in to get checked. I drank wine & told my family & friends what had happened. I eventually went in on Tuesday as I was still feeling so sick and I saw a baby & heartbeat on the scan and measured 11 weeks. I have been diagnosed with a hematoma. I was so shocked.

Thinking of you for Tuesday and hoping you get good news.

Teandme, thank you so much for sharing your story and I’m so happy to hear that the ending was positive - I am really hoping the outcome is the same for me, especially as my experience sounds very similar.

Wishing you all the best x

UPDATE: Amazing news at yesterday’s ultrasound- baby is doing well and measuring as he/should be. The sonographer was unable to identify a cause for the bleeding but suggested it may be a hematoma as you ladies have experienced.

Thank you so much again for your advice and support- in scary times, it is so important to be reassured by people who had had similar ordeals!

That's fantastic news! I bet you're so relieved xx

If you are 9 weeks then are you due in May? We have a Mumsnet May 2021 babies Facebook group set up with about 60 of us in if you'd like to join, lots of people have experienced bleeding in there. It's completely hidden/private so nobody will see you're in it x

Brilliant news 🙂 X x
