Pregnant, have I ruined them?

I’m about 4 weeks pregnant. A week ago I had 3 shots of vodka, I never drink - that was the first time in 6 years, which I suppose makes it so much worse as my body isn’t at all used to it.
What is the likelihood of brain damage or other damage? I feel awful.

'bad' stuff passes via the placenta. Your dc hasn't got one yet!! Try not to worry.

applepineapple · 10/10/2020 18:31

Totally fine. Please don't worry. Most babies are conceived after a night of drinking anyway Grin

Belle1983 · 10/10/2020 18:33

Don't worry at all.
It's still very early.
I had 4 drinks the night before I found out, and so far everything is looking normal and healthy.

My SIL apparently didn't know she was pregnant and definitely had a lot to drink at new year, my nephew was born in April very healthy and 15 years later is a fit and healthy young man.

Obvs don't continue drinking, but go easy on yourself now. I'm sure everything will be fine.x

CabernetSoWhat · 10/10/2020 18:35

Likelihood of damage imto baby is nil.
Congratulations on your pregnancy.

So many people are drinking before they know they are pregnant! Majority do not even realise until 6-8 weeks.. no alcohol in pregnancy is a relatively new advice . Please don't stress .. 3 shots of vodka is nothing unless you have continued to do it.. its 3 units if they were singles .. 14 units a week is the max for a normal week.. so even if they were doubles it's still less than half of the weekly amount ..

I had 2 bottles of wine the night before I found out 🙈 try not to worry

Definitely TMI, but when I did the pregnancy test for DS I was drunk and the wee was largely from cheap white pub wine - had the sudden OMG moment when I suddenly remembered I hadn’t had a period for a while.

DS is 1 next week and the happiest, healthiest little boy.

BeMorePacific · 10/10/2020 19:07

Literally no issue at all. Don’t be so hard on yourself. x

MrsWooster · 10/10/2020 19:12

Sunny has it: the placenta, which starts the connection to your bloodstream (and the vodka!!) hasn’t developed yet so the baby isn’t attached. Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy!

Littleposh · 10/10/2020 19:32

I was 19 and 3 months gone when I found out I was pregnant, I had been drinking at least every weekend in that time. She was absolutely fine and is now 20 with more common sense than me

AegonT · 10/10/2020 19:46

Don't worry about it loads of people drink before they find out. I did. I don't think it transfers at such an early stage as the placenta isn't functioning. Just don't drink after you know.

Superscientist · 10/10/2020 23:05

Most women don't know they are pregnant at 4 weeks never mind at 3 weeks when you drank. At 3 weeks pregnant it has only really been 1 week since the egg was fertilised and it is only towards the end of this week that the egg implants into your uterus. Contained within the egg is all the nutrients it needs, you are not at this point sharing blood. It won't be affected by you drinking. Heavy or regular drinking once the placenta starts to form should be avoided. The proportion of babies born with complications due to maternal alcohol consumption would be considerably higher if drinking in the very early days of pregnancy was an issue. Don't beat yourself up about what is done focus on what you do now you know you are pregnant

I had my works Christmas party a week before I got my positive test. I have a healthy 9 week old now. I doubt I'm alone in this
