Eating unwashed salad...

Not sure if I should be worried about this but I'm 38 weeks, and just had some salad from a packet. It was a substitute from an online order and its usually pre-washed, but this was a different brand and I didn't notice.

I ate it but it tasted gritty so I stopped - checked the package and it says to wash before use.

I wouldn't normally be so worried but could this be harmful to the baby? I only had maybe 2 bites - looking through properly it was really dirty! I feel sick....

The risk is for listeriosis, which is very rare indeed. In the USA less than 5 people in every million get it every year, and most of them aren’t taking the precautions that pregnant women take (washing all salad, avoiding some soft cheese etc). The chances of getting it from a couple of bites of salad are absolutely tiny.

You will be fine. Stop thinking about it.
