Advice/help needed - bleeding at five weeks and clearblue weeks are too low

Hello ladies,

Really hoping some of you might have had a similar experience in the first trimester and be able to help. I'm 5 + 3 (pretty sure of the dating) and have had brown spotting (getting darker) for five days now. I'm really worried because I had nausea and breast tenderness which seems to have completely stopped. The sudden change in symptoms doesn't feel right.

I took a clearblue digital test this morning and it should have shown 3+ weeks, but shows 1-2 weeks. I'm so worried that it indicates falling HCG levels.

Has anyone experienced the brown spotting, drop off in symptoms and also had a test show lower hormones, and still had the pregnancy be okay?

I have a six week scan booked in next week but that feels like an agonising wait!

Any personal experiences/advice would be so helpful, I think I'm panicking because it's my first.

Hi lovely,

So the responses of clear blue are as follows
1-2 = 3-4 weeks pregnant
2-3 = 4-5 weeks pregnant and
3+ = 5 and above
So yeah you should technically get 3+, maybe 2-3 as they're not an exact science.

I think if I were you I'd ring EPU or something. I really really don't want to worry or upset you, but I never got passed 1-2 weeks on a clear blue even though I took 3 tests over the space of 10 days and I ended up having a miscarriage where I started bleeding red blood at 6+4. I can't say 1-2 was a sign for me but....

Usually they say spotting brown blood is usually fine it's when it's red that you should be more concerned so it's possible everything could be fine but you will be better off speaking to somebody and maybe getting bloods done to check your HCG levels as it could be too early for a scan xx

I really hope everything is fine so fingers crossed and hopefully somebody has had a more positive experience than mine xx

Also when did you use the clear blue it could be they your urine was diluted hence the lower result? I read so much on them when I was having my issues with them tests and saw stories that people have been behind on them in weeks and gone on to have healthy pregnancy's anyway x

Unfortunately this has always indicated a non viable pregnancy for me. That's not to say there isn't hope and I'm sure some people may post saying this happened to them and everything was fine - 🤞 for your

I'm currently 5+4 and have had severe cramps and brown discharge when I wipe for 24 hours now.

I called my local EPU who told me to come in and performed an internal scan where they found a little heartbeat. If I was you I'd give your local EPU a call and see if they can see you.

Thank you so much. xxx

The midwife referred me to a pre natal team who explained that it's very likely an early miscarriage. I need to do another test in a week and if it still shows as pregnant they'll call me in for hospital tests. They seem fairly certain that the test will show not pregnant by that point though and advised me not to even bother with the six week scan. :( Gutting, but I'm grateful to have some kind of an answer.

So sorry to hear that you've gone through the same, sending you love. xxx

Ah, really glad to hear it. (I think by the sounds of it the brown discharge alone isn't necessarily a problem.) xx

Sorry - that's to RebeccaLF. I'm a bit of a novice at MN. .

@louchebag oh honey I am so sorry, I've been there it's awful, truly.

If it makes you feel any better, it all came away quickly and negative test very quickly as so early into pregnancy too so my levels didn't have as far to come down. I ovulated 4 weeks later and got a positive test 2 weeks later and I'm now 7+3 approx and all going well so far.

You'll get your rainbow 🌈 ❤️
