Partners at appointments yet??

DH and I are TTC baby #2, but am worried he won't be able to come to any of our appointments. Can anyone currently pregnant offer any advise? Are they letting partners in again yet?

Some areas are one scan and some are both, not heard of any where partners can go to any other appointments apart from inductions. I was sad to do the 12 week scan alone and was able to have DH there for the 20 week scan, the other appointments I don't feel like he's missed much as I m low risk I had a midwife let me video baby's heartbeat so he's got to hear it.

DueNumberTwo · 08/10/2020 17:23

Each nhs trust is different so you'll need to check your local information.

Parkandride · 08/10/2020 17:23

Absolute postcode lottery! I think something centrally told them to open it up to partners but it's still work in progress. For me 20 week scans are ok, 12 week not, lots of midwife apts are via phone. I got impregnated while my husband was out in the carpark as ivf is still quite strict! Mixed bag but hopefully improving all the time...

gretagreengrapes · 08/10/2020 17:25

Due to increasing covid cases in my area I have to go to my scan soon alone. It's our first baby so a bit sad about it. And he works in O&G so is seeing everyone else's babies!

83Mimi · 08/10/2020 17:25

Mine is allowing partners at 20 week scan only - and they can only stay for 10 minutes apparently! I'm tempted to get a private scan so he can have a more positive experience than being kicked out halfway through!

I really missed his support at the 12 week scan but in the end all way fine. I do also feel for him, it feels so old fashioned for the woman to be going to hospital and the man left sat at home!

Mommabear20 · 08/10/2020 17:25

Thanks! With our last one (DD was born mid June but we want a close age gap) we were lucky and DH was allowed to everything upto and including 20 week scan but not my induction (until I was 4cm then was allowed onto labour ward for birth). I'm not too fussed about midwife appointments but really hoping he'll be able to come to the scans 🤞🤞

@Mommabear20 they still aren't allowing partners to either scan at the moment in my area. I hoped it would have changed by now but just had my 20 week appointment through and still not allowed and we are in an area with relatively low cases compared to others.

supoort · 08/10/2020 17:30

Where I am, south west, partners have been allowed at both scans since 29th of September

alphabetti · 08/10/2020 17:54

Where I am they temporarily allowed partners to scans (only for the scan not fir rest of appointment) and then with increase in restrictions they stopped them again, without warning myself and partner turned up to 30 week growth scan and he was told he had to wait outside hospital.

I really have struggled with having to go by myself to scans/appointments as at first scan and then 20wk scan was worried they’d find something wrong with baby. I was referred to consultant for baby being bit small and then they’ve found diabetes so I have regular appointments and growth scans and really don’t like having to go by myself.

Oneandabean · 08/10/2020 17:56

Only allowed at the 20 week scan where I am, nothing else

Skygirl1983 · 08/10/2020 17:57

Partners are allowed to scans and appointments in Portsmouth. I had a look today. Which is a relief!

ShalomToYouJackie · 08/10/2020 18:06

I wouldn't worry about that now as things are likely to change so trusts that aren't allowing partners with women may end up allowing them by the time you are pregnant and have scans.

Carabu1 · 08/10/2020 18:07

It’s a no still where I live, for everything. Has been since March. Tbh I think next few months it looks set to get worse, so I’d be prepared for not and then you’ll both be pleasantly surprised if it’s a yes!

Carabu1 · 08/10/2020 18:07

(Also worth considering private scans - my husband has been to 2 now so he hasn’t totally missed out!)

Mommabear20 · 08/10/2020 18:08

@Carabu1 that's what we're doing, was just hoping it would be otherwise but not looking hopeful!

Chelsea & Westminster allowed partners for scans as of last week but they have to wait outside in the hallway not in the waiting area.

MsJ9 · 08/10/2020 18:28

I'm East Mids and the 2 hospitals I could potentially go to are both letting partners for 12 and 20 week scans only

Honeydukesmum · 08/10/2020 18:41

I think everywhere different

But ours is allowed to scans , hospital based appointments eg consultant and day assessment. Booked slots on pn ward. Throughout labour and induction.

Not community appointments yet

MaryShelley1818 · 08/10/2020 18:48

Absolutely nothing here.
Although to be fair in my first pregnancy DH only came to 12wk and 20wk scans so we've had 2 private ones to make up for it.
I don't know anyone who's taken a partner to a standard Midwife or Consultant appointment even before Covid.

Inkpaperstars · 08/10/2020 19:21

Partners not allowed at any NHS scans here, Central London Hospital.
My partner has attended two private ones though. Not every private facility is letting partners in so do check if you book one.

pinkflamingo561 · 08/10/2020 19:38

Partners allowed to everything in Warwick, but not Coventry, so it really does depend on individual area /hospital

Hatepickinganame · 09/10/2020 00:34

Scans only in Norfolk/Cambs. My oh missed the 12 week but was allowed to 20week and 28 week growth scans. He isnt currently allowed to any midiwife/consultant appointment.

Planty13 · 09/10/2020 00:37

They are medical appointments and I don’t see how it is necessary for them to attend. It’s nice to have them at the scan but not vital.

Parkandride · 09/10/2020 06:55

I guess you've never had bad news at a scan @planty13 Sad for me it's not about them seeing cute babies on a screen but for support. However I accept that there are probably people receiving horrible diagnosis alone in every area of the hospital right now. Which is crap for everyone Sad

Queenbee95 · 09/10/2020 07:12

I’m in Edinburgh. Was told when I called the central line that DH would only be allowed to scans.
Only had booking appointment so far (face to face app - not over phone) but MW told me he can come in to those too. Said my doctors surgery have allowed it. Only thing they’ve said no to are children coming in to appointments.
