Should I book a private early scan?

It's £30 deposit and £40 on the day, DH was okay with the £40 then found out about the other £30 and thinks we should just wait (I'm 6 weeks) I'm really impatient though and suffered a miscarriage a couple of months ago, I'm desperate for the reassurance
My last pregnancy with DS 6 years ago I ended up with an emergency scan at 7 weeks due to hyperemisis
This pregnancy is so different hardly any sickness yet but I'm very dizzy achy loads of tummy tightening (not painful)
It just doesn't feel the same as last time and I'm on edge I'm almost wishing for bad sickness just so it feels the same as before Confused

I have one booked for when I’ll be 7+3. It is a lot of money but I know I need it mentally so it seems real. Sounds like you might be in a similar boat. Good luck with your pregnancy xx

I have just had one as I was so anxious it was all I could think about and it was affecting my mental health. I did plan to wait until 8 weeks (as if you see a heartbeat after 8 weeks your chance of miscarriage drops to 1.6%) but i had a lot of brown discharge and panicked and booked at 7+3. Turns out everything is fine and the baby is measuring at 8 weeks. I can’t even tell you how much of a relief it was and how much better my mental health is. I can sleep and eat properly now.

Can you shop around for lower prices? Mine was £55

Hi OP.
I'd say go for it if you can afford to, especially as you've had a MC.
I'm currently going through a MMC that I didn't know about until my 12 week scan last week (baby died at around 7 weeks) but had bad feelings in the lead up to the scan as I hardly had any symptoms. I wanted an early scan but midwife said there was nothing physically indicating that I needed an earlier scan. Looking back, I would have paid extra for the private early scan so we could've known earlier what was going on.

Hope everything goes OK whatever you both decide.

I had one with dc2 at seven weeks as I had trouble getting my head around it at first.

I’d say it was worth it. A scan at seven weeks, then “only” another 4 or 5 until your 12 week scan.

Haggisfish · 07/10/2020 19:49

I did and was worth every penny.

ScottishLassie91 · 07/10/2020 19:53

Can you shop around? I have one booked for Monday when I'll be around 8 weeks and its £50 x

cryingattoystory · 07/10/2020 19:56

I've had a look at different places but there's only 2 within a reasonable driving distance 1 hour away
where we live isn't that close to any cities etc and the cheapest is the £70

I had an early one and it was worth it, do it if you can afford it.

grandmasterstitch · 07/10/2020 19:57

I had one a couple of weeks ago at 9 weeks for £45 so it's definitely worth looking at different places. Totally worth the money but I probably wouldn't have done it for £60-£70

emmafou1807 · 07/10/2020 20:02

I paid for an early scan due to a miscarriage earlier this year and just needed the reassurance. Have a think about at what point you have it, I waited until 8 weeks as you are more likely to hear a heart beat which is that extra level of reassurance again

ScarMatty · 07/10/2020 20:26

I think absolutely go for it, but wait until you're 7/8 weeks. Much clearer image and more 'baby' like

cryingattoystory · 07/10/2020 21:39

It's booked! could of got this week but I've booked for next Wednesday even though it's super hard to wait
I asked for DH advice again and he said you're going to book it anyway so just book it
He was right Grin

Yayyyy! I just had private one last week at 7w abs yesterday sent for nhs one at 8w, my two dd’s I had hyperememesis abs not a day of sickness this time so I thought there was no way it was viable and so far so good, it’s worth waiting an extra week anyway because they develop so much in a week at this stage you’ll have a stronger heartbeat . Enjoy xxx

ER20 · 08/10/2020 17:44

I’m 8 weeks tomorrow and having one at 9+6 as I want to see the baby for the first time with my husband rather than alone for the NHS 12 week one (currently partners aren’t allowed still in my area).
