13 week Dating Scan - second attempt

Hi All - I wanted to know if anyone has experienced the same during their pregnancy dating scan. My Baby was Lying in an awkward position so They were unable to measure the neck fluid. She asked me to walk around and jump etc but still didn’t work so she has asked me to come for the scan again next week. Hopefully nothing to worry about? I hope the position is better next week. Don’t know what happens if they still can’t measure it. This is my first baby

I had to have three tries (on the same day) before baby would get in a good position. I was lucky that the appointment after mine was a no show so they had extra time to spend with me.

It shouldn’t be anything to worry about. If they can’t get a measurement next time I think they take blood tests (the same test as if you got a high risk result from your 12 week scan) instead.

It’s worth remembering that the risk of Down’s syndrome is low especially if you are under 30 so try not to worry (easier said than done I know!!)

Not at 12 weeks but I'm booked for my 4th scan following my 20 week one because they couldn't get two measurements and then needed to check the placenta but baby was in the way!

They move round a fair bit when they're still tiny and often that extra week of growth helps makes it clearer. Try not to worry.

My baby wasn't laid right at my 12 week but unfortunately I was actually 13+5 so it was too late for a second attempt. I just went back for bloods at week 16 instead. Both my friends who recently had babies also couldn't get the week 12 measurements due to baby lying weird so try not to worry it's super common

Thanks all! That puts my mind more at ease. She also couldn’t do the scan on my belly as the baby wasn’t clear so had to do the vagina scan to see better. The baby was very active, harms and legs were all over the place stretching. My next app is on Monday, fingers crossed it goes better

I'm Having twins and neither would sit still for the measurements at the 12 week scan. My NHS hospital only allows 2 attempts to get them and after 5 mins the sonographer gave up 🤷‍♀️. I wasn't offered a repeat scan. In the end I paid to have it done privately - you certainly get what you pay for - at the private clinic said they just keep trying until they get them matter how long it takes

@Sara1212 same thing happened for me to - try not to worry I'm sure it happens often, after all it's not like we can control these little beans at my first 12 week scan I was actually around 11 weeks, but as they couldn't get a clear image ( even with going internal) due to bean lying awkwardly they couldn't do screening tests or determine due date, so was booked for two weeks later where I was 13 weeks exactly, test went much more smoothly, and I received the results last week giving me the all clear!
