IM NOT SURE WHAT A MEMBRANE SWEEP IS BUT HEARD IT WORKS. CANT BE WORSE THAN WAITING AND BEING INDUCED... CAN IT?

its a bit like having a smear, mw runs her fingers round your cervix and thats it! can be a bit uncomfortable but not painful. i had a couple which resulted in a few contractions and a bit of a show but not real labour. however i did go into labour on my own so i think they may have helped move me along. they are supposed to only work if labour is imminent anyway but its worth a go!good luck

I had one done to start things off with no.3 , as my other two were at my mums for the weekend so my midwife said lets get you going!

Its like having an internal, not the most comfortable thing I have ever had done, but certainly not the worst. It's all over very quickly. Just made me wince a bit. was able to go food shopping afterwards.

My waters broke the next morning. Dh handed me ONE tissue.

Yeah doesn't always work but it did for me. I found it didn't hurt at all, tho I think it depends on how ready you are.

I don't think theres any more risk of infection than when you have sex. You'd be very lucky/unlucky to have your waters broken by a sweep.

I bet 67 people are now going to post and say its happened to them

I struggle breaking a woman's waters with an amnihook when she's 4cm never mind when she's not even in labour. Heck sometimes at 8cm with bulging membranes its not the easiest.

Mrs Merton - Have been chuckling out loud at your one tissue moment

It's basically like that encounter you had as a teenager when a boy thought that pushing his fingers in as far as they could go, would be a pleasurable experience.
