Help needed for infant observation!

Hiya Mums!

I am an aspiring child and adolescent psychotherapist currently undertaking a pre-clinical masters course with the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF). I have worked with primary school children now for a year, and have had my fair share of experiences with lots of babies in my family life.

Part of my course requires me to observe a baby from infancy up to 2 years. I am looking for a family that would be comfortable with me observing their new born baby (less than 6 weeks old) for an hour a week at a time suitable for you, over the course of two years. These observations would assist my learning of the early stages of development and the special relationship between the baby and caregivers.

The observations would most likely be through video call given our current circumstances unless you were comfortable doing them in person in which government guidelines with regards to social distancing will be followed.

Following the hour long observation I would make notes, for example: what I had observed the baby do, how they interact with their caregivers, how they reciprocate facial expressions and so on. I would then discuss this with my fellow aspiring psychotherapists and course leader who is a qualified child psychotherapist- however details about your identity would be confidential, and everything is above board (DBS check, consent documents to sign etc.)

It is a commitment and not something every family would be comfortable with which is completely understandable. If you have any queries or would like to look at the official description of what infant observation is or the formal documents please don't hesitate to ask!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this 😊
