Hello,

Just the title really! My test looks lighter than it did last week. Is this a bad sign? I was 5 weeks 3 days when I took last weeks and 6+2 today. Dont have any symptoms so making things feel worse! Xx

I'm not an expert but I'm sorry to say I think unless you have tested at different times or the most recent test was very watered down, I think it is a bad sign yes as your HCG should be increasing and therefore the line should be stronger. Could you use a digital test?

Parkandride · 06/10/2020 08:54

Pregnancy tests arent designed to monitor progression, just tell you if you are or not. You could be more hydrated, have a different batch of dye in the test etc. You may find a private clinic who can do beta blood tests a few days apart to compare levels if you're anxious.

But I would stop testing if it makes you worried, that was why I never tried to get a 3+ weeks on a clear blue - you cant do anything about it if its not what you want to see. Good luck Flowers

It looks like it is the control line getting lighter? That would be a good sign

Westnorwood · 06/10/2020 10:29

Isn’t that last one an ovulation test?

Willowfalls · 06/10/2020 10:39

Omg yes!!!! No wonder 🤣🤣

I think ovulation tests show a positive for pregnancy as well, @Westnorwood - but I don't think they're recommended as a substitute for a dedicated pregnancy test.

@Willowfalls I'm sorry to say that if your tests are getting lighter then it's not a good sign - I've had a couple of chemical pregnancies and this is exactly what happened in those cases.

Would you be able to book a private scan for a few days' time? At seven weeks you should be able to see a heartbeat so you'd have a clearer answer, rather than trying to judge from lines on tests.

I'm crossing my fingers you have a positive outcome Thanks

Willowfalls · 06/10/2020 10:48

Thank you so much ladies x

The control lines start to go faint on FRERs as your test line steals all the dye! Its stronger not weaker!

Also cheap tests can only get so strong (mine peaked then have been the same look since. tests also start to fade for some people at 7 wks plus ("hook effect"). Best to stop testing after a while - I'm down to one a week haha

Flittingaboutagain · 06/10/2020 13:07

Haha oh brilliant!

Bl0ndi3 · 06/10/2020 14:22

I'm fairly sure that the FRERs are getting stronger and not weaker? The test line is the one on the left and the control line on the right? So it's the left line you should be concerned with and not the one on the right...

The test line is stealing dye from the control line which is a really good thing!

Willowfalls · 06/10/2020 14:38

Thanks @TheDaydreamBelievers. If I remember seeing correctly, you’re due around the same time as me?

@Bl0ndi3 I know but the good strong one with the pale control line is from last wednesday and the right one is from today :(

Bl0ndi3 · 06/10/2020 14:40

Oh okay, wasn't sure which way around the tests where from your original post.

The scan will tell you what you need to know so hopefully it's not an issue and stop testing!! Haha x

Willowfalls · 06/10/2020 14:43

I know 🤣 I didn’t test once before my missed period and ever since I have been a serial POAS addict!! Xx

Bl0ndi3 · 06/10/2020 14:44

Oh believe me you're not alone I've still got 4 FRERS sat on my window ledge haha! I'm 7 weeks today and don't test anymore (after 4 FRERs, 2 clear blue weeks and 15 ICS hahaha) but I did test the other day on the day I miscarried last time just for reassurance 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

Willowfalls · 06/10/2020 14:55

I’m just behind you! I’m 6+2. Were yours looking really strong? So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Was it a missed miscarriage? Xx

These are mine at 10/12/14/16dpo :)

I started bleeding at 6+4 and it had all gone by 7 weeks confirmed by scan so was lucky it happened naturally and quick, I guess xx

Was pregnant again within 6 weeks and so far so good xxx

Yeah @Willowfalls I'm 6+2.

I've been using 1 cheapie a week and they are quite static in colouring.

Wishing you all the best, hope we both have sticky beans

Queenbee95 · 06/10/2020 15:48

I had a faint positive at around 4 weeks, A much darker line at 5. I tested again at around 8 weeks because my friend took a test which was positive and it was really dark and she wanted to “compare lines”. Anyway, mines came back very very faint again, next day the test was negative. I spoke to MW who said not to worry about it at all.. I made a thread on here and someone told me about something called the “hook effect”.

I’m now 10 weeks, MW didn’t say anything was wrong with my bloods at 8 and a half weeks. I still have a lot of symptoms too, so I’m guessing nothing is wrong. I have my 12 week scan in 2 weeks

Willowfalls · 06/10/2020 16:19

@TheDaydreamBelievers @Bl0ndi3 fingers crossed for sticky beans and @Bl0ndi3 glad you are all okay now.

Have you girls had any symptoms?

@Queenbee95 ah thats really reassuring. Thank you much xx

@Willowfalls I have the odd day where I feel nauseous and food turns my stomach and then days where I am fine and can eat for England haha

DueNumberTwo · 06/10/2020 16:51

Pregnancy tests shouldn't be used to monitor pregnancy, they don't tell you anything about the health of a fetus. Once you know you're pregnant, stop testing or you'll drive yourself mad.
After a certain level of HCG they stop working, don't get darker and can instead get lighter.
