Pain above ribs

36 weeks pregnant and for the past 2 weeks I’ve had excruciating pain (literally worst pain ever I have to stop what I’m doing) in my right hand side just above my ribs at the back.. (hope it makes sense!) it’s on and off some days I don’t get it but other days I do and it’s totally unbareable.

Has anyone else had this? Wondering if it’s baby near my ribs? I have an anterior placenta so barely feel movements even this late on so not easy to tell if he’s near my ribs or not really...

Yes I had this, baby was breech and it was her head! They only realised once I was in labour x

You need to have a check for pre eclampsia

Can you call triage

Do you have a blood pressure monitor at home?

I had horrendous pain and it was my kidney was blocked And swollen with wee

It was in the middle of my ribs on my back side instead of the front

I had hydronephrosis have a look at the symptoms

Either way you need a full review incl urine dip stick test

Xx

I do have a BP monitor so will quickly check that now.. I have mentioned to midwife so many times about pre-eclampsia and that I check my BP and I get told off as they always say my BP monitor is not calibrated for pregnancy!!

Just checked it and it was 138/86 which I don’t think is anything to be concerned about and no other signs of pre-eclampsia.

I’m going to check out hydronephrosis now, luckily midwife is coming over tomorrow to do some bloods as being tested for GD so I’ll mention the pain to her then xx

I’m no expert but I think 138 is in the high side, phone your midwife or doctor

Do you have a temperature or any nausea

Call the labour ward and go in and be checked over xx

Me too. Although they knew all along. Agony. I could sit for maximum 30 mins at a time.

mild – blood pressure between 140/90 and 149/99mmHg (millimetres of mercury); may be checked regularly but does not usually need treatment
moderate – blood pressure between 150/100 and 159/109mmHg
severe – blood pressure of 160/110mmHg or higher

That’s from the NHS website re BP...

No nausea or any other symptom.. just the pain in rib which has now gone - the pains in my rib/back appear to come and go - today’s been a particularly bad day though..

Midwife is over at 9am so going to speak to her about it and get it checked out.
