Hi ladies

Just a quick question really.. if you have a elective c section do they do this on ur actual due date? Or do they move the date later? Many thanks

It's usually a week or so before your due date.

spurs4ever · 04/10/2020 17:02

Do they not do it on the date ? Is there a reason why it’s done earlier ? Just curious meeting with the consultant next week to discuss

It would usually be scheduled earlier to try to avoid the chance of you going into labour and needing an emc.
Some labours progress very quickly and there might not be time for a safe c-section.
And when a womb is contracting it's slightly more risky to operate.

AnotherNamedChanged · 04/10/2020 17:09

I think they do it earlier in case baby decides to put in an appearance of their own volition. A C-section before the due date reduces the chances of that happening and causing complications.

My elective was a choice after emergency the first time.
I said I'd wait close to my due date incase she decided to kick of naturally, but given the first had to be evicted at almost 42 weeks, I felt safe that this one wouldn't come early.
My csec was planned for her due date, but with no slots available, they did it the day before.

MissSmith80 · 04/10/2020 17:26

Mine was scheduled for 2 days before my due date but my waters went 2 weeks before my due date. I was admitted, monitored for further signs of labour and had c-section brought forward (the day after my waters went).
They don't want you to go into labour while waiting for a planned c-section because having an emergency one has slightly worse outcomes than a planned one.

Mine were about 10 days before, but in DS's case, he decided to arrive 8 hours before the planned c-section!

Theseptemberissues · 04/10/2020 19:12

I was due on the 8th and given the choice of the 3rd, 4th or 5th for my section... obviously chose the 3rd! Was DONE being so pregnant Grin

Miss2820 · 04/10/2020 19:13

I thought it was a week before but the consultant told me it was some post during the 39th week. Might even have been the day before I was due.

They did actually call with a date that was 5 days before I was due but she was nearly 2 wks old at that point 😂

jackstini · 04/10/2020 19:22

Dd was emcs 11 days late (20 days by my dates!)
Ds was elcs 2 days before due date

orangejuicer · 04/10/2020 19:24

Miss2820 · 05/10/2020 07:53
