When will I see a midwife?

I'm 7+5 with my 3rd pregnancy.
I was wondering when everyone managed to speak to or see a midwife during Covid?

I'm a very high risk pregnancy. I have Spina Bifida, BMI 32 and severe preeclampsia resulting in premature birth in my last pregnancy.

I of course understand that things are difficult at the moment and Im sure theyre working hard to see everyone, but Im incredibly anxious about this pregnancy because of my last birth being so traumatic.
Id really just like some advice and reassurance from them.

Wow some comments say they've barely seen someone!

I found out I was pregnant at 4/5 weeks and booked onto my local hospital straight away. I was seen by a midwife at 8 weeks face to face (mid-late March). Then a phone call appointment for 18 weeks ish, and 22/23 ish weeks. Face to face for the rest- 28, 31, 34. Got my next one booked for a few weeks time when I'll be 37+4 (36 today). Had all the scans as normal too.

Well I had 2 for the 11-13 weeks one as they didn't listen to me when I said I'm a week behind what they thought 🙄🙄 (I ovulate a week later than 'normal'). But still had the anomaly scan at 20 odd weeks and the final one last week at 35 weeks. I'm in the south east of England if that helps x

@Nia18 for SB 5 mg of Folic Acid unless very obese. I believe. That’s what I was suggested to take. ( close family has SB)

MisiSam · 04/10/2020 07:25

I'm 11 +2 I self referred at about 6 weeks and then my midwife came over to mine for my booking appointment at 8 weeks. I'm in the south east. Everywhere seems to do things a bit differently though.

5mg folic acid is advised for bmi >30 (nice guidelines).

Nia18 · 04/10/2020 14:23

Surely you've had a scan before now? If you're high risk then bloods at the very least?

Booking in was around 10 weeks (ordinary times) then they would put you on the higher risk pathway if appropriate.

PopsicleHustler · 05/10/2020 14:53

In a dream, perhaps lol.

All jokes aside, I am 25 weeks today and I saw mine at 17 weeks and heard nothing since. I had to chase her up last week and was told it would again be a phone consultation. Wont see anyone til I go and have my diabetes test as well. It's a pain in the neck but given the circumstances I understand, but still wish we could be made a priority. We haven't got the plague. We are pregnant mummies

PopsicleHustler · 05/10/2020 14:54

All my other appointments were over the phone. I did meet my midwife at 18 weeks just for a blood test . That was 7 weeks ago

Nia18 · 06/10/2020 16:52

Just an update. A midwife rang me today, took a few details and said she'd do the 'proper' booking in appointment next Tuesday. But I feel better knowing shes aware of my complications.

She prescribed 5mg folic acid and aspirin though, so I feel much more comfortable. She also sent a referral to the consultants.

Some of you seem to be getting such little contact with midwives and health professionals :(
Like others have said, we need the support and advice now more than ever.
Makes me glad we have this platform.

I’m low risk so I’m just going by what I’ve had. I’m 28 weeks now but I had my booking and 24 week appointment over the phone. The rest have been or will be face to face. I would imagine you’d get more face to face and extra appointments if you’re high risk though :)

Inkpaperstars · 06/10/2020 23:05

I am glad you have had a chance to fill them in Nia.

You're right, it's good we have somewhere to compare notes and work out what should happen.
