I just ate 1 smokehouse sausage stick from the bag, without it being cooked. Then I did some research about Toxoplasmosis and I guess smoked meat is a no-no. How worried should i be?

I would try not to worry. Make sure you know what symptoms to look out for but a lot of women will eat the ‘wrong’ foods at some point. The risks toxoplasmosis or lysteria are very low but they say to avoid smoked meats, certain cheeses etc as then of course you reduce that risk even more.

In many countries they don’t advise to avoid smoked meats - my family is from Europe and I had no idea in the UK they say they are to be avoided until quite recently! Nothing I can do about that now but have cut them out now I am aware

Don't worry. I am very sure you will be fine. With my first pregnancy 8 years ago I lived on salami slices with toast (strange I know!) but I just loved it until my midwife told me I shouldn't be eating it just incase. But by one stick I'm sure it will be ok. Read the signs just incase but I know how you feel.

I've already eaten feta, which I didnt know wasnt allowed! Will try not to from now but I didnt know and I've not become sick

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 02/10/2020 07:50

Feta absolutely is allowed, unless your eating the tiny, vastly expensive amount of it that is unpasteurised.

peachypetite · 02/10/2020 07:52

Feta is fine! Get your info from the nhs website not random websites.

@peachypetite @PaulinePetrovaPosey I didnt realise most of it is pasteurized (packets dont say either way). Great news because it is salty deliciousness Grin
